.357 Magnum Bullet Weights

Hi:
The .357 Magnum ammo available locally is 110 and 125 grains bullet weights. Is 158 grain .357 ammo still manufacted?

It is definitely still being manufactured. I made 100 rds. last night.

Yep. It's pretty hard to find here in Michigan also. You can get All you want if you don't mind paying about thirty to forty bucks a box per 50 .I personally don't care for the 110's, they shoot too low if you are sighted in for the 158 gr. I also had one stop in a cell phone[ballistic test and get rid of old phone]. I think I want a bit more penetration than that in a .357.

I agree the 158gr ammo is harder to find than the 125gr stuff but I also prefer 158gr ammo. For some reason most of the SD .357 Magnum ammo made these days is either 110gr or 125gr. I guess the non-shooters who buy SD ammo want the 125gr stuff because the published velocities are higher. How very little they really know!

I don't think they're wrong.

Shooters want 125 gr. .357 ammo because of it's fearsome street reputation and higher energy. 125s penetrate adequately so aside from shootability, POA/POI and gun wear issues, there is likely nothing to be gained from the heavier bullets IMO.

We might have to disagree on this one and that's O.K., there's certainly nothing wrong with 158 gr. ammo. The .357 being a hard cartridge to screw up, 158 gr. ammo should be far from inneffective. I could carry it with confidence were my guns not stoked with 125s.
