is there any won who has takin a stock m&P 9mm barrel
and had it work for a conversion on your m&P 40-357 ?
thanks

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest the biggest problem is the breechface, extractor and ejector may be different. I guess you are asking about a S&W M&P.

The 357 SIG and .40 S&W share the same case head, the 9mm, not.

For a Sig pistol, Barsto makes a conversion barrel to go down to 9mm. No idea about S&W though.

A stock 9mm barrel will drop into a .40, I'm not sure if a .357 is any different. A couple of guys on here have put a factory 9mm on a .40 and ran hundreds of rounds through with no trouble at all... You can even use the same magazine, but the last round will cause problems.

The 357sig & 40s&w M&P pistols are the same gun with only a barrel change. The 9mm M&P has some different parts including the barrel & ejector. I read on other threads where people were running a M&P 40 gun with a stock 9mm barrel and had no problems with it. So I ran up to my local gunshop and asked them to take a stock 9mm barrel and insert it into one of their M&P 40 guns. Well, the 9mm barrel dropped into the 40 slide all right, but the slide would not cycle without the barrel getting stuck before the slide closed. Now this was with the 5" barrel m&p guns, so that is what I'm basing this on. If someone has had success with a shorter barrel working, then they need to speak up, but from what I've experienced my answer is "NO", the OEM 9mm M&P pro 5" barrel will not work in the 40s&w/357sig long slide guns.

Just make sure you don't use it for SD/HD with the stock 9mm barrel. But you already knew that.

Evel:

Without having tried it, Storm Lake makes a 9mm barrel that should work fine in your 40/357.

You're not supposed to use a factory S&W barrel that way, but Storm Lake is apparently just putting a 9mm hole in a 40 barrel :D....

The ejector on my 9C seems to be identical functionally (not the same part - the 9C has a thumb safety, too), but it sure looks OK. One thing I did do, and have kept on doing, is put a 40C slide & barrel on a 9C frame (and vice versa), to get the thumb safety from the 9C. No problems at all either way, but it's clear that just swapping barrels won't cut it.

I've fired several hundred 9mm rounds from my .40 by just dropping in a S&W 9mm barrel... (no other mods needed) Not a bit of problems...
