I got my 36-1 today. I cleaned it with breakfree CLP and Hoppes Elite. It's a beauty. I don't have a gun room like the one I saw in a previous post and don't have a gun safe. Right now we have 2 S&W's, a blued 36 and a Stainless 60. They are both in a closet comfortably resting on polishing rags. We have no kids and no chance of a kid coming over without prior notice so I don't think we need to lock them up like fort Knox. We do have them loaded and available if (God forbid) they are needed.

What is the best way to store our handguns? In a box squeezed between the foam rubber, wrapped in a soft cloth or just on a cloth on the shelf????

I've read about waxing the blued gun with rennaissance wax but haven't gotten around to picking that up yet.

As usual, I appreciate any advice.

I've heard of people just putting them in an air tight container with one of those... little packet thingys that are supposed to absorb moisture.. and put the container in a cool dry place.

For long term storage you can grease them and place them in a silicone cloth but remember to completely clean the weapon prior to shooting it.

As a follow up to this post, how does the forum members that have a safe store your handguns? Do you use a rack that angles the gun on it's grip or one of those in the barrel racks? Or the velcro holders on the door. I am not crazy about the velcro, because they look like holsters and I know you are not supposed to leave them in holsters long term. Also what is considered long term? 1 month, 6 mos, 1 year? Can't wait to get that 400+ baby home.

I've been using vinyl coated wire racks, Versatile Rack Co, I believe. 4 & 6 gun units, well made in USA. Have the ability to be stacked w/use of an additional adapters. Got mine at Cabella's, I think Midway carries them too.
I'm quite pleased with the product. Bought a rack manufactured for Browning, in China, that was pure garbage. Came out of the box all bent out of shape which made me all bent out of shape. Took it back, spent more money on present racks, got much better quality.
