Was going to buy a used 386 Xl. It has a Millet red dot on it.No orginal rear sight included. What bugged me was it had a discoloration on the cylinder. (Rear) They called it "cylinder burn "What the heck is that?. I passed on it.

It could be quite a number of things. The most likely scenario is that it is in need of a cleaning.

If it is anything like my 386SC it is virtually impossible to remove. Problem is that I don't use any strong solvents for fear of removing clear coat. So, I live with the discoloration. Cleaning it immediately after shooting helps, but once it is there...

Thanks finally got an answer that makes sense.I am somewhat "anal retentive " so I have many stainless steel guns rifles included.I have Mod 25-2 blued whichI never holtster.Same the 386XL has such a delicate finish

I have a 386 with the same marks. Some one fired the gun and never cleaned it and now its hard to get off. I bought it anyway. Abt 18 OZ and 7 shots. Lighter than the 66 I carried and one more shot. Excellent carry gun, depends on the price. Larry
