Did Smith ever make a gun they called a "38/32"?

I know the 38/44 was a 38 on the 44 frame, and the 22/32 is a 22 on the 32 frame, and, realistically, I and J frame 38s are 38s on 32 frames.

But was there ever one called that?

I suspect not, as the author of this particular murder mystery is EXTREMELY gun unknowledgeable.

There were no cartridges ever made with that designation. S&W did make 38 caliber revolvers on a 32 (I frame) revolver, so in that respect it is similar to a 22/32 designation. The Terrier was the only one designated as a 38/32.

So the Terrier was, in fact, called the "38/32"? This murder mystery is written in 1943.

That's kinda amazing, since this guy thinks there are safeties on 38 Police Special revolvers, and is unaware that Iver Johnson and I.J. are the same people.

Could be worse. Margaret Truman Daniel, Harry's daughter, wrote several spy novels in which she invariably referred to autoloaders as "revolvers". As I recall she had one "revolver" that was supposed to be built entirely of plastic.

And there is always the author's favorite, the "Automatic Revolver" (which must have been a Webley-Fosberry), and the ever-present "Safety Catch" found on all Glocks.
