Mentally brutal week but got an early break this afternoon. Took late 70's 28-2, 14-4 and a '65 10-6 to my nearby range. I'm 58 and have never been a great shot, but I'm getting out to shoot as often as I can now.

While my hold needs lots of improvement, my eyes are pretty bad too. My best results at short range are to take off my prescription glasses and just wear safety goggles. Today was great because I finally shot my 6" 28-2 well and the 10-6 again proved why it's legendary. Unfortunately, I did the 14-4 no justice. Both 38's cycled 158 gr LDRN and LDSWC's (UMC and Ultramax). The 28-2 shot mostly American Eagle 158 gr JSP's, but also some of the 38 rounds.

Since painting the HP's sights and not being timid about cranking windage and elevation, it shot great. And even though the 10-6's sights aren't fancy, for me the sight picture is pretty darn clear. I guess the biggest reason I didn't do the 14-4 justice was because I need to paint the patridge so that I can focus better. Anyways, my gorgeous wife left for a cookie swap as soon as I got home so I set up cleaning shop on our table. Better than my office as it's more ventilated.

Fear not Shooters ! ! ! ! As you continue down the shooting road, there will be days when you CANNOT miss the target. Joy and happiness will overflow your shooting cup.

Then there are those other days when you could not hit the target if you brought your wife AND girlfriend (assuming you are a guy) to the range to help you shoot better. On those days, just enjoy the activities, but remember to go inside the barn and shut the door. You may hit something.

ill be 57 in the begining of january i know what you are doing thru with the vision im finding im shooting 686s better than 28s now

Think you have problems, I'll be 81 in a few weeks! Can still keep them mostly in the black from 7 to 25 yds but not as well as I used to. This is a recent target fired with my 29-1, using .44 Special loads of course - 25 rds @ 15 yds.

Well, eyesight is why I do not shoot competitive trap anymore. I can't compete. Need something that does not move. At least i am not moving the target closer................................yet

Pete, I'm an old Connecticut boy, did a lot of shooting on the old Blue Trail Range prior to enlisting in the AF at 17. Those were good old days (50s) when, even though I wore glasses, I could see the front sight clear as a bell. Now, even with tri-focals, it's not as clear. I'll be shooting as long as I can safely hold a firearm.

OldChief, if I MAKE it to 81 I hope I can still shoot as good as you! That target looked good!

Eric, those targets look good to me (guns too). I'm 58 too and have resorted to a Burris FF3 to keep me on target. I can shoot open sights ok but not as accurate as I'd like. BTW, retirement and going to the range twice a week helps too!

Thanks! Yeah, the target was only 3 or 4 inches. Shooting between 10 and 13 yards or so. And if I'd of listened to my late Dad I'd be retired now too! Merry Christmas!!

All three are clean. The 28-2 and 10-6 ready to shoot again, finished off by wiping down with Break Free CLP. But I've Ren waxed the 14-4 for a later time. Going to continue to hone my skills with my HP's, Model 10's, K22, and Model 63.

On Christmas day I get to open up the BK grip adapters my wife got me. One will go onto my 10-8 and the other onto my 4" 28-2 shooter. And....she also got me a bunch of Rimz moon clips for my '79 6-1/2" 25-2. Even I can shoot the 25-2 darn straight.
