I stopped to pick up a Christmas gift for my in-laws and "had" to make a pass thru the Gun Library.
Inside one of the cases lay a large revolver with a tag that read "38 Hand Ejector---$358.00"
In the Gun Library, few guns are tagged below $500.
I was shocked at what I saw. Yep, it was a .38 Special N-Frame...no, it was not a 1917 or an M&P...Can it be a HD? OK, what the heck's wrong with that gun?
I immediately got the very busy sales clerk's attention and made sure I was NEXT in line (I was in fact the next person due to be served, I just wanted to make sure HE knew it as he was a very busy person).
I waited and waited and waited....while waiting, two very obviously drooling S&W (potential) buyers slipped in, wrote down numbers from the tag...then drooled on...I stood my ground in front of the display case. I was not going anywhere until I got my paws on that gun.
45 minutes after my "parking" next to the display case...I got my wish.
Here's what I found. It's serial number is: 44063. There is no evidence that any of the screws have seen a screwdriver. The blue finish seems to be 80% or so. It does not look to have been shot much at all...nice and tight. The bore is clean as a pin.
The grips look original with some marks but very little actual wear.
All the gun's serial numbers all match up (however I have not seen under the grips).
The best part...
The Sales Clerk turned down my generous offer of $300.00 He countered at $325. Sold.
Then, to make my day even better, one of the sales associates threw in a coupon...the math worked out pretty nice with the gun going home for $275.00 including sales tax.
Tomorrow morning I'll run by with a signed copy of my C&R and bring the gun home. It will be my first HD and I'm very excited to shoot the gun!
I'll try to post pics tomorrow evening.
