38/44 HD....Yes, Cabela's comes thru again! Who'd a thunk it?-Added pics

Mike,
Here are the stampings as best I could find/locate and photograph.

Bob
Right side grip frame: Looks to be the number 5 near the pin and to the right of the pin, an R or a B with a "peen" above the letter.

Left side grip frame: The T is easy to see on this side.

Inside the ejector rod shroud: Looks like a B to the left of the serial number.

What I was looking for, would be something resembling a date - stamped
usually a bit higher on the front or rear grip strap. Or, any kind of a
diamond mark.

What you see is entirely normal, and there is no indication that the
service department received the gun. The gun is probably original. What
appears to be there is just the routine assemblers marks.

There is something about the appearance of the cylinder that seems abnormal,
to me. I don't know if its the color, or the near-absence of blue on the
face, or what. The gun may well be 100% original - I don't know.

Everyone else seems to think its the cat meow, so I will have to bow out !

By the way, the B stamped in the extractor housing indicates that the
gun is suppossed to be blue !

Thanks for posting the additional pictures.

VF,
Looks like you have a 100% orginal and complete pre war HD that is in great shape and anyone that likes HD would be proud to have. Thanks for posting the pics and enjoy it.

Congrats on two scores, #1 the gorgeous revolver and #2 for weathering the slings and arrows of the nay sayers. Last time one of our fellow forum members made a nice find (a 5" M/29) it got picked apart over serrations under the front sight base. With your gun it was the cylinder face etc.. It never ceases to amaze me how some folks cannot say congrats on a great find and leave it at that. JMHO!

Thank you Marksman and BruceHMX. I will be shooting this gun...not heavy loads, but it's not gonna sleep in the safe.

While shooting with pbslinger last week, we found my reliable and soft shooting (158gr SWC in front of 4gr of Win-231) shot point of aim. Nice and easy on the 'ol girl.

K.38,
You know, I've been pretty lucky to make some decent deals on a few of my guns, but IMHO this was the best to date.

Thanks.

Bob

Bob, I'm surprised you never made more on a gun than the $50 you are making selling the Heavy Duty to me.

Congrats on your best deal to date!
