.38/44 Outdoorsman- Updated files-HELP !

Just acquired yesterday, 38/44 Outdoorsman, 6 1/2" barrel, Blue, Matching numbered diamond center magna's, S/N S 146272. Shipped Jan. 57 according to Roy. (Shoots great!) Pictures when I get it cleaned up.

Here's a couple of quick photo's, it cleaned up pretty nice, just a few little handling marks and muzzle wear.

Don't know if you have my scratched up one, a pre war, 43454, customized by most likely the original owner. The seller to me didn't do it, and he was the 3rd owner.

That gun brings a smile to my face every time I see it. Until I saw the pictures I never knew that there was an art form you could call "folk engraving." It's a fine gun as an Outdoorsman, and an interesting one because of the original owner's contributions to its appearance. I love it!

Revolver on the left is transitional model, S69200, revolver on the right is S92624 (yes, I know the grips are wrong - I'm working on it).

Thanks to Bill, I know that S69200 is a Missouri Highway Patrol piece, which is where I live/bought it.

According to what I was told by the previous owner of S92624, he acquired it from a former security guard at NORAD. Plausible since the wear from six cartridge heads on the recoil shield seems to indicate it spent many years in a moving holster...

I have had 38/44 Outdoorsman #42921 for several years. This revolver has un-numbered Magna Grips and has not been rechambered . Don't know any history on the gun other than it spent some time in a holster. Currently saving up for a factory letter.

Jerry,
I don't believe I ever gave you my 38l44 serial number.
Mine is a Transitional, serial number S 65222.
Thanks for your effort in this matter.
Rhett

Many thanks to all who continue to help with serial numbers and photos !
I am slowly adding much of the information to the SWCA DATABASE once I get shipping dates from Roy.

Even though over 4,750 Pre-War .38/44 Outdoorsman were produced we only have the confirmed existence of about 250 !

Best Regards,

Jerry Lewis "GLL"

Post war S122955. I have a post war HD (S77695) to keep it company. Beautiful machinery, both.
