38 DA 4th Model

Picked this up this week. I haven't checked the barrel S/N yet but the butt, cylinder and latch all match. I'm hopeful there aren't any surprises there as it looks like the screw is in good condition. From my research it seems there weren't very many of these made with the 6 inch barrel. The finish is fairly worn but the bore looks good. I've started shifting my focus to the antique and C&R S&W revolvers and single shots as I've gotten older.

Congrats on your new acquisition! It looks like a 3rd or 4th model .38 S&W
DA with a 5-6 inch barrel. A serial number will be needed to lock down which
model.

It’s late production. Post 1902 since it has the caliber stamp on left side barrel. Or it’s miss matched. Matching numbers?
The long barrels are very scare on early production only. Late production they rate as uncommon.
Dr Jinks calls the pre-1890 two piece long barrels as “extremely rare”. That’s early production only.

I started a while back with my interest in the Antique revolvers thinking I would be able to curtail my hoarding habit of pre lock newer revolvers. Crap, it backfired, now I can order them to be shipped directly to my house and the addiction has spun out of control.
