The .38 DA has a 6in barrel and tons of original blue remaining as well as a perfect set of grips. It dates to around 1904.

The Model 1 is the 3rd variation and retains almost all of its silver plating as well as a magnificent set of rosewood grips. Its a real splendid example of old world craftsmanship.

I'm extremely proud to own them both:)

Thanks, Ed

"The Model 1 is the 3rd variation ". It's actually a First Model, Second Issue; and a very, very nice one. Congratulations. Mike $283.

Haha, I like this place already:)

Thanks, I was going from memory and you forced me to drag out the books. Non-fluted cylinder and square grip was the giveaway.
Serial number dates it to 1864.

Thanks, Ed

Hi DesmoEd, My Model 1, 2d issue is sn 74426. Would this place it near your model 1's 1864 date?

Thanks, Ray

I have the same 6" .38 DA, except that mine is a little "bluer." Mine has about 95% of the original bright blue with a few traces of browning on the cylinder and backstrap. I still shoot it occasionally, but with oversize grips.

Nice firearms! I have a 3 1/2" version of the 38 DA. Mine dates to 1893. It has just about the same amount of original finish left as yours does. I have never fired mine in the 7 years I have had it. I have only fires a couple of my oldies, one being a Model 1 1/2 (Center Fire) single action. (32 S&W) and it was remarkably accurate.

Welcome aboard.
