I just bought a 2nd. model .38 today. Serial # 724xx. Lockup is good, and the latch semms good. If I had a camera, I would post pictures. How do you test the latch to make sure it is safe to shoot? Could someone recommend some ammo for my new baby? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Snub,

I've got several and I shoot them all. As long as it's resonably tight, with good cylinder lockup and timing, you can shoot it all you want. Either Win or Rem factory loads in .38 S&W are loaded plenty light enough for your gun. They are loaded down to be safe in all the knock-off suicide specials.
Several companies also make Cowboy Action loads which are great too.

A little pitting in the bore is typical due to early corrosive primers. As long as you can still see some rifling, it will probably surprise you with its accuracy.

Enjoy!
Chris
