I bought this .38 Double-Action Perfected at an auction a few months ago. There was no real reason to buy it. Except maybe that I didn't own a Top-Break revolver yet.

The revolver has the serial number 525XX. It was therefore made towards the end of the production period from 1909 - 1920.
There is nothing to criticise about the condition of the gun. Unfortunately, the box and papers were not included.

The single action trigger is quite good, double action is heavy. But maybe the trigger just needs some care, it is quite possible that there is still 100 years old shodder hidden there
The sights on this model are very small and not really usable Pointing towards the target and aiming down the barrel is more effective But if I understand it correctly, it was often shot from the hip at that time anyway.

(Sorry for the fingerprints)

Nice 38 Perfected. I find opening mine a little bit awkward, but then I do not put in a lot of range time with it :-) The craftsmanship that went into the perfected models is amazing.

Word to the Wise - think before opening! I have bought and had to repair a few 38 Perfected revolvers with a bent quill from previous owners. If one is familiar with shooting top-break S&Ws, it is likely that you will forget about the thumb-latch and pull down on the barrel. Besides this action, if it does not open the first time, just pull harder on the second try.

Great top breaks and not often seen here in the US for sale as many were exported. If you are interested, I am attaching a 1919 S&W catalog page for the 38 Perfected revolver. It was the swan song for this model since they were out of production by 1920.
