Allen, nice looking 90 year old S&W. The only detraction I see is the chip in the right grip. Without the chip, I have seen them offered in the $400-$500 range. With the chip, I dont know. Darn nice looking finish and colors. Mike 2796

Condition, condition, condition. That one is in very nice condition (with the exception of the as noted chunk out of the grips - which can be repaired by one of the grip magicians on the forum). I think value is more in the $500-$700 range. You just don't see that many in that condition.

My thoughts,

I think anything over the $500-$550 range is too high. Not sure I would go that much. I wish they would bring more. I have two about the same age & condition, I paid a lot less several years ago.

By the way, I'd date its shipment around late 1923 - early 1924.

The chip will probably cost $100 to repair. Picasso and Renoir dont come cheap. We could start a whole new discussion on value. I just stated what I have seen on the tables in SoFo the last six years. They made a lot of them, not rare but occasionally seen at shows. Would I pay $550-$700.
I have a collection of them in like condition. So no I would not. I know Allen, he deals in value everyday in his line of work. Mike 2796

Thank you gentlemen.
My estimate was $500.
I said I would peddle it for the owner.
I would like to buy it to stash away, being in the condition it is,
and a 6 inch.
But I just committed to a 1911 purchase that will take all
my folding $ for the next month ,!

Regards
Allen

Allen, buy the 1911 and dip in that secret pocket and keep that M&P. We all have the pocket for emergencies. Give it up Allen, you know you want to. Your pusher friend, Mike.

Agreed with Mike. That's a beautiful M&P. Don't let it get away, you will kick yourself for it later

Allen, I will tell you , I will give you 5 crisp for the M&P , chip and all.
Take your 10% and everybody happy. I will see you at the Sun show at the AL #222 where I saw you with Brad when you got the M-15 from Phil.
Send me a PM and let me know. Mike 2796 I found a perfect set of period ivories that will set that girl off.

There are several craftsmen who can repair the grip chip, and indeed, plan on about $100 for that service. It would be almost essential to refinish them also, and to freshen the checkering. Therefore, they are no longer original. For less, you can likely find an undamaged pair of period-correct grips in at least the same condition.Again, not original, but close enough. I have found that most of the 1920s grips (which have penciled SNs) have illegible or invisible SNs anyway. I have two pairs, like new, neither of which have any evidence of a SN (even in bright light with a magnifying glass).
