Hi,
Shop has a M&P Target Third change, sn 195569.

Its in decent shape, its been reblued. And a couple cylinders have carry up issues. All number matching.

It wears beautiful aged Ivory Magna style grips with S&W emblems. They fit perfectly.

The butt has what appears to be a plugged lanyard hole. It is to the rear of the serial number. Were all factory lanyard holes in the center of the butt? Boy that may not sound right!

Shop wants $395, I figure that is close to what the grips are worth.

Any info regarding the lanyard would be appreciated.

Thanks, jim

Generally, S&W put the lanyard loop in the center of the butt. They ocassionally drilled through the serial number, if a loop was added to an already built revolver, and then restamped the serial number on the grip frame, under the stocks.

I would think that the lanyard hole should be
in the middle, although its possible that it
might be offset.

Ivory magnas were not available at the time of
this gun - those are not original. There are a
lot of Ajax ivory grips , with medallions.

If you buy this gun, get an agreement from the
seller that if the lanyard hole does not
letter, or if the gun was an M&P when shipped,
you have the right to return it.

I'd be suspicious that the gun is not right.

Muley and Mike,

Thanks for the information on the lanyard hole, I thought the same.

Mike ,I know the grips aren't correct to the M&P, but they are some of the nicest I have seen. When were magnas first introduced for the K Frame? When did Ajax first start making Ivory grips?

I would normally walk away from a revolver in this condition.

Thanks, Jim

Magnas were introduced in about 1937 or so, for
both K & N frame. Maybe a year earlier - maybe
not.

Ajax goes back into the 1960's, I think. There
were other grip-makers that could do ivory.
