.38 S&W B/T

Most of the published .38 S&W handloading recipes are safe for use in top break revolvers. If you are concerned about safety in yours, just use the starting loads given. The .38 S&W can be loaded somewhat more powerfully for use in later solid frame revolvers, but the reloading manuals normally do not include such loadings unless specifically stated.

Does anyone reload .38 S&W for a older Break Top Revolver ?
Your load and Bullet ?

A 145gr/150gr bullet over 2.4gr or 2.5gr W231. (depending upon accuracy)

I had acquired a Safety Hammerless a couple years ago and my brother found one early Spring 2022. We had custom holsters made for them. His is a regular shoulder holster and mine is a holster that goes in the suspenders left side strap. We gathered all the empty 38 S&W brass around the loading room and came up with a little over 575 pieces and loaded them with 158 grain SWC over 3.0 grains of Unique. That is from Lyman #45, and they say 700 fps.

Our holster guy has a Safety Hammerless also, so he made himself a holster to fit his shoulder harness too. I gave my brother 100 rounds, the hoister guy 50 and have a little under 400 for myself (Plus factory that dates from the 1970's back to my grandfather's stash from the 1920's!)
