I am trying to install a replacement trigger return V spring in a model 5 (late 1930s) 38 Safety Hammerless. It is a very difficult task for me. Can someone go thru the assembly sequence for me. I have assembled the lock work without any problems until I get to the V spring installation and with each try it locks up (freezes). What I need specifically, is the correct placement of the spring in relation to the trigger. I have watched the YouTube Video many times but, the assembly person's fingers get in the way. I am one spring away from range time. I need help guys!

There should be a longer arm and a shorter arm on the spring. The longer arm rests against the trigger ledge. They are a real pain to replace. I have fashioned a spacer from time to time that keeps the spring from sliding forward. a small steel spacer that does not interfere with the trigger guard installation works great on those guns that give you trouble.

Trigger Return Spring Learning Curve

glowe, I have two of the V shaped springs for the trigger return on this 38SH. Neither works. With the side plate off, the trigger does not go back far enough to engage the hammer notch. I assume the spring is not compressed enough to facilitate the trigger lock up. I have considered heating the spring up and quenching it in oil but don't know how much to bend it. Is there a measurement of height or angle for this spring? Did you encounter this issue? OR is it just trial and error? One of the springs is out of a 38 DA top break and the other is for a 38SH. Both springs appear identical.
