We had a S&W 38 s&w special revolver come into the shop today that does not have a model on it. Could anyone tell me what the model and possibly the year is on this gun?
Here is what I have (unfortunately I can't get pictures up right now, sorry):

Top of barrel: Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass USA patented
OCT. 09 01. DEC 17 01. FEB 08 06. SEPT 14 09. DEC 29 14.

Side of barrel: Smith & Wesson

other side: 38 s&w special CTG

Barrel appears to be 4".

Inside of swivel is what appears to be 7926.

Butt: is a six digit sn beginning with 295. No letters.

Grip was checkered but is so worn you can barely tell that it was.

Welcome to the Forum.
You have a Military and Police revolver. It became the M10 in 1957. The serial number is the one on the butt. Catalog dates it to about 1917.

A 295xxx SN would date its shipment around the spring of 1919. Closest SN I have listed is 299xxx which shipped in 6/1919. It is the Military and police (M&P ) model. Some collectors would call it a Model of 1905, 4th Change.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! It also predates heat treatment of the cylinder. It would be best if whoever you sell it to sticks with lead round nose or wadcutter target loads.
