38 Special ID

No model number on it. Has a serial number on the butt 181085. Says 38 S&W Special CTG on 4" barrel. In mint condition. Was wondering what it was called etc. and a value range. Thanks for any info. you can provide. And thanks for the really quick response on my other gun!

I'll bet you a dollar there is a letter C prefix to the serial you have chosen to ignore for some reason.

Or the number you posted is an assembly number from the frame under the cylinder crane and isn't the serial at all.

Oh, all right. It's a Military & Police Model. Becomes the Model 10 in 1957. If it's C181085 it probably dates from 1951 give or take a year.

Do you have the box and any accessories?

I saw one locally sell in similar condition without the box for $500 about 4 months back.

No, no box or anything. I'm not selling, as it is a gun handed down to me from a relative was just wondering it's value. So, I would guess $500.00 max?

Likely shipped in mid-1952. It looks pretty good. I'd also say $400-$500 tops w/o original box in a private sale.
