Using Lyman cast data, I've loaded up some 38 Spl 148 gr swaged DEWC (Magnus) with 3.5 grs with HP38...for paper punching fun. I used 3.0 grs in the past, but it was a bit on the light side but still accurate.

Any experience or pet loads with this bullet and HP38/231 is greatly appreciated.

I load 3.4gr W231 under a 148gr DEWC and it's one of my favorite loads. When loading a 148gr HBWC I drop the charge to 3.2gr.

I've tried 3.4 and 3.6 and haven't noticed any difference in accuracy.

Some chrono results from a long bbl'd (8-3/8") S&W 586:

Speer 148 HBWC w/ 3.9 W231: Avg @ 814 fps, St.Dev @ 32.3 fps
Speer 148 HBWC w/ 3.4 W231: Avg @ 734 fps, St.Dev @ 53.0 fps

Bayou 138 BNWC (coated) w/ 3.4 W231: Avg @ 790 fps, St.Dev @ 10.3 fps

Mstcast 148 DEWC w/ 3.8 W231: Avg @ 921 fps, St.Dev @ 21.0 fps

I'm sticking with the 138 BNWC's in that gun. -S2
