Personally, I think your beter off buying a lot less. But, a few more brands. Their prices are about right, but, its on par with most JHP prices.

SO, why not get a hundred from 4 manufacturers, and see how they each shoot.

It'd be a shame to have 1000 bullets that you can't get to perform.

From the same gun, just changing the bullet can half the group size.

I second the idea of trying several different bullets before a volume purchase.

In addition to the two responses above, I would suggest you might want to think about other bullet weights. You are planning on firing these bullets in a sub-2" barrel, and the lighter weight isn't going to give a lot of extra velocity. Personally, I'd rather use one of my hard cast 158 gr bullets that I'm pretty sure will give good penetration, even at reduced velocity than a lighter hollow point that may not expand either and is less apt to penetrate adequately. Just a thought.

I shoot the 124 gr. Montana Gold JHP in 9mm and it is a good bullet.

It certainly is in a 9mm.

As it is .002 SMALLER than what a .38 Special is bored for, .357, AND jacketed - thus unlikely to obturate to make up for being undersized - I question its use in any gun chambered for the larger bore.

Montana Gold makes excellent bullets. However, testing bullets from other makers, in the CORRECT diameter, will let you know what works best in YOUR gun.

I preferred the 158/160 grain RNFP's for competition, as they load beautifully using speed loaders. A jacketed bullet will be cleaner; however, a poly-coated bullet will give you almost as clean a projectile as a jacketed one, for little more than the cost of a mere (and messy) cast one.

Several friends of mine use the Montana Gold in USPSA action shooting and go through quite a volume. They seem to be well satisfied. First, I would not load 125 gr for a 38, and second I'd only get 100 each of several different brands and see what your gun likes. 158 gr. cast bullets are very reasonable, and should shoot to the point of aim if loaded to around 850 fps+. Good luck, and be sure to read ALL the information in the reloading manual first before you start loading, especially the safety information.
