It'll never happen, but I'd like to see a S&W equivalent to the Colt Detective Special. Those are about the size of a j-frame with a 6 shot 38 spl cylinder forced into it-- noticably smaller than a k frame. I've owned two Dick Specials, a second gen and a third gen, but much prefer the S&W lockworks & DA trigger pull.

They tried it in the mid-1970's with the "C" frame Model 73.

For a company that has a reputation for throwing nothing away, destroying almost 5000 guns must have left a pretty bad taste in their corporate mouth. :(

I like k-frame snubbies, but they are noticably larger than the Detecytive Special. LKike I said, a DS is about the same size as a Chief but with a 6-shot cylinder.

The Dick Special is a great compromise between a J and a K. At only 2 ounces more and slightly larger frame than the J, it has an extra shot and shoots more like a larger frame gun. Why I haven't chosen mine as my EDC I don't know but if Smith did a gun in DS size I think it would be a winner!
