If her purpose is to educate the coyote so it won't follow her or any other humans around it may just work. I doubt the coyote will get close enough for the rat shot to inflict any serious type of wound and rat shot doesn't have much of an effective range. She still may want to carry something that will be lethal in case she does need to use it.

If your are pointing a firearm at a coyote , your intent should be to immediately put it down and ya better be darned sure of what is behind him.

Coyotes are an invasive pest most places.

We invaded their AO.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all against killing one that is acting aggressive.
Snake shot will just wound or worse blind one, if you are going to shoot one,
kill it and be done with it. Wounding or blinding is absolutely the wrong thing to do.

If you want to scare it away do not use a gun. If you decide to shoot it, kill it. Don't make it run, walk or crawl off to die a slow, lingering painful death.
