That's normal on a new gun, it just need to be broken in, also if you don't fully load the mag it will be easier. Galloway Precision sell upgrades for the BDG380, not sure if they sell the RSA.

These very small pistols need stout recoil springs to function properly.

It isn't uncommon for folks to have problems operating the slide: particularly folks with less than optimal hand strength.

Although the spring will lighten up a bit with use, it needs to be pretty stiff. I'm unaware of an aftermarket recoil spring that is both noticeably easier to operate and also ensure proper function.

Your relatives may benefit from learning, and practicing, a different technique for operating the slide:

grasp the slide with the weak hand by grabbing the slide over the top with thumb pointed toward the shooter (for a right handed shooter, this means that the left hand finger tips are grabbing the right side of the slide while the left side of the slide is grasped by the base of the left thumb) then pushing with the dominant hand in firing position while pulling the slide to the rear with the weak hand then letting the slide slam forward by releasing the weak hand.

Sounds more complicated than it is.

Yep. You'll find this same thing in an LCP, a Keltec P3at, or any small caliber pocket gun. Gotta break them in, and even then they can be tough if you have no grip strength.

Sell the .380s and let them pick out their own guns. I don't know a single woman who actually likes shooting a BG380. I own one. My GF, who has her own guns, refuses to shoot it.

Wolff and Brownells.....

...both sell springs, but you'll need to shoot a weaker form of ammo if you reduce the spring.

Try racking the slide with the gun held waist high. Reach over with your left and get a good grab on the slide. PUSH the right hand forward while holding the slide. LET GO when the slide is all the way back. It's very easy to ride the slide in this position.

What you have to watch out for with this is blocking the ejection port when something needs ejecting. For the first cartridge in a magazine, no problem.

some rough grip tape at the rear of the slide on both sides of the slide is worth trying. hate to see you give up on such a nice pistol.

Like others have said if you start replacing internals ona self defense gun, especially a semi auto, you risk compromising reliability. Too risky.

We run into this all the time at the gun shop. The answer is NO. The gun is designed/tuned with the heavy spring to compensate for the light slide. Without it, the gun will batter itself and may suffer reliability issues.

The fix is to switch to a small revolver.
The revolver will not only get you past the spring issue but is simpler to operate (for the elderly and/or occasional user) under stress and provides allot of options for recoil absorbing grips.

I agree with post #5. Any "pocket" .380 is difficult for most women to handle. Stiff recoils springs, limp-writing tendencies, and pretty stout recoil from the SD hollow point rounds that seem to be most reliable in these tiny pistols.

I met some friends at the range Saturday so they (primarily the middle aged mother and grown daughter) could shoot a few of my guns. They intend to get their CCW. I let them shoot my 642 and my Bodyguard 380. Despite my attempt to steer them towards the revolver, they both much preferred the Bodyguard. The daughter especially shot the BG exceptionally well. Definitely not the outcome I expected. Daughter said she liked shooting my Shield 45 even more.
