380 PLEASE-Which One?

Wayne,
Can the LCP's be outfitted with the finger extension mags?

Ruger sells extensions and mags that have extensions on them. I got my finger extensions when Ruger modified my two LCPs and sent them back on the recall, freebies.

Rule 303

Aloha,

Between the Wife and I, we own a Sig, Walther PPK/S, Beretta 84 and 86.

Of the 4, I use the 86 with it's tip-up barrel to teach basic handgun.

I like the Walther least, because of it's snappy recoil and heavy trigger.

The Sig is also snappy, but less than the Walther.

The best of the bunch are the Berettas. They have Never failed to fire with what ever ammo I have fed them and in student hands.

They are accurate enough for us at 7 yards.

Women and persons who have trouble cycling the slide love the tip-up feature of the 86.

Yes, they may be a little on the larger side for a 380, but, given the newer self defense ammo availible, I would rather not get shot with Anything.

A 380 in hand is better than nothing.

I divested myself of all .380's in an attempt to cut down pistol ammo to 3, max 4 types. However a deal on a Browning BDA presented itself about a month ago and was back in .380 land. In for a penny...so to speak, I picked up a new KT .380 about 2 weeks ago. The KT has a chrome upper and the newer style extractor. I wrapped the grip with tape (to give it a palm swell) and covered it with a hogue grip rubber thing and put a extension on the mag.. Recoil is not as bad as the PPK's I've had in the past. HK, Magnum Research, Kahr, all have pocket .380's in the big $$ range. What's going on? Give em what they want I guess.

PK380

I bought a 3913 Lady Smith for my wife, but she doesn't like the recoil :( Even putting a set of Hogue *Recoil Absorbing Rubber Automatic Pistol Stocks* on it doesn't do it for her... She's a near 60 year old girlie girl, btw ;)

I've been reading about the Walther PK380 and wonder if this pistol is the solution for her. We hit the range about once a month and I've been hoping that she'd get used to either the 3913 or my old 4" Model 10, but it ain't happening.

Any opinions (good or bad) by PK380 owners or users would sure be appreciated.
A local small town sporting goods store has one for sale for $350.

Keep an eye out for a used Astra Constable. Cheap, and built like a tank.

A lot of people have a lot of opinions. I don't care for the PPK; a little too small for my hand. I prefer either the PP or PPK/S; they are a little bigger.

The Beretta 84 is a nice pistol, but I prefer the Browning BDA380. It is basically an improved version of the Beretta. It feels good in my hand, and two of my friends have a BDA380 also. (I was about to say that it feels good in my hand and two of my friends feel the same way.) We have no problems carrying the BDA concealed, and we like the larger capacity magazine.

May I suggest a Mauser HSC, if ya want a 380, might as well have a bit of class! And the Kel-Tech PT3AT works well also.

I have a S&W PPK\S, never ever had a single problem with it and I have shot a few thousand rounds throught it, both ball and HPs.

The PK380 is an excellent pistol. The recoil, or lack of it, is remarkable. Think .25 ACP. I've put 300 rounds though mine so far, without a single hiccup. The only thing I don't care for is the fact that you need a special take-down tool to field strip the thing, and the recoil rod is a pita to re-install. Accuracy at 21' is PoA on my pistol, from a sand-bag rest.

Find a local range with one to rent, and have your lady try it out. I think she'll like it.

I chose the Sig P230 and am very pleased with it. It shoots the +P 100 grain hardcast lead flat point ammo (which has the ballistics right there with .38 Special) like a champ. (not all .380 guns can shoot the +P wihout issue).

I have had a Beretta 85FS for quite a few years and it has never failed to function. No misfires and no fail to eject - it works. I carried it for many a year before I moved up to a heavier caliber.

I have a PPKS that I carried for 9 years on my ankle at work. Never had any problems with it. Never had any dealing with the Sig .380, but I do have several other Sigs, very good guns. Lately, been carrying a Kel-Tec P3AT, like it because it is light and easy to conceal. Good luck, tough decision.

I'm with Micky D on this one. If you're going to actually SHOOT a 380, accuracy is paramount:

if they fit your hand the are wonderful to shoot.

I've only had experience with three 380's.
Makarov
Browning 1910/55--SA w/grip safety
Mauser HSC
I'm not comfortable with SA, even with the grip- and regular safety;
Murphy's law and all that.
The Makarov's were very accurate, but make my wrist sore, the next day
after only a few mag.s .
The Mauser Hsc is okay, but seems bigger than the others.
Since my K-T P32 works well, I may have to try a plastic 380.
I don't know about reliability with the 380 in plastic, though.
Actually, I'm a big proponenent of having SOMETHING. When the fun
starts, you don't want to be the only one that can't play along.
