Found these 2 in a local pawnshop and can only afford one of them. I'm interested in opinions from a collecting standpoint. Which would you guys buy. The first is a lnib 39-2 with correctly numbered box looks to be new. Definitely a safe queen. He wants 550.00

The second is a 5967 lew Horton with two tone with blued slide and stainless frame. Scsw says 1 year only. This gun is a shooter with slight muzzle wear no box. He wants 450.00

I just received my scsw book and I've been researching prices. But in my opinion most "alloy"
Auto pistol model prices are very optimistic.

Thanks for any help!!

Two 5967's found in a week? Tough call between the two, if it's strictly for a collection the 39-2 might be better. But the 5967 is 1 of 500, can't say that for too many models.

Just called to put the law horton on layaway and its gone!!.. I knew I should have grabbed it.. the clerk was not familiar with it and they were closing up. I will call again tomorrow to double check. Would have matched my 457 zander!!!!

While the odds of finding a LNIB 39-2 are relatively low, the odds of finding a fine condition 39-2 are reasonably good.

The odds of finding a 5967 Lew Horton are basically one in a lifetime. Just sayin'.

If you can't get both, were it me, I'd go for the 5967.

Edit: looks like you replied as I was typing. I am a slow typer... LOL...

I'm guessing the other member here that posted about it got to it before I could!!!.. I guess he made my decision for me. 39-2 it is!!..

Does anyone here think the prices in scsw for most autos are being very optimistic?.. if these guns are truly in the ballpark on lnib 3rd gen autos. I need to buy everyone I come across!!!

Not sure where the other one that was found is. Other than the thread on here says it was in a pawnshop for $360. Also had a name engraved on it. I can't lay claim to either one.

I have the 5967 on lay-away and I negotiated it down to $318.00. It is engraved but I have a replacement 3914 stripped slide coming that's in the same appearance level as the frame it will go on, so the appearance won't be out of balance with a like-new slide on a used frame. As for where it was found, in a pawnshop in Georgia. Not sure what I'll do with the engraved side once its depopulated. Probably toss it in the pile of miscellaneous parts I have accumulated.

According to the Smith and Wesson parts list you could also use a 6904 slide:

3914:
68A 108870000 $288.63 X SLIDE ASSY, FIXED NLC
68A 201380000 $288.63 X SLIDE ASSY, FIXED (LS)*
68A 204090000 $291.41 X SLIDE ASSY, FIXED NLC 3914NL*
68A 234950000 $288.63 R3 SLIDE ASSY, NLC

*These are for the 3914's with an angled dust cover.

6904:
67A 106850000 $277.06 X SLIDE ASSY, FIXED
68A 108870000 $288.63 X SLIDE ASSY, FIXED NLC
68A 234950000 $288.63 R3 SLIDE ASSY, NLC

It is interesting that the 5967 does not list a slide assembly in its parts list.

True, but I needed one that had a similar level of wear and was cut for novak low-profile rear sight. I didn't want a brand-new looking slide nor a beater slide.
