You think one reason the shield is so popular is because people don't have 3913/14s to buy anymore?

I've really been wanting a shield but already own a fairly nice 3913. Every time I'm ready to go find a shield I pick up the 3913 and have second thoughts. I wonder if I am just falling into the popular, in style choice.

So what if a 3913 was right next to the shield at the LGS? Think it would be different?

Also, should i:
1. Buy a shield and get over it. Be trendy and accept your new fashion.
2. Use the money to get my 3913 spiffed up, get night sights, and new holster, resist the urge to be trendy.

I have a 3953 and a Shield. I like them both, usually carry the 3953 when I can carry anywhere but put a Glock 26 in the car this morning when I headed to South Carolina.

If I were in your shoes, I would keep the 3913 and buy a Shield.

BTW, I have owned a S&W 908s, two 908's, two 3913's, a 3953, three 9mm Shield pistols.

I've got both; 3913NL and the 9mm Shield. I shoot both but I carry the Shield. Mainly due to the fact that my 3913 is pristine and want to keep it that way. For me the Shield is more expendable.

Agree. Keep your 3913, but go ahead and buy yourself a Shield to get it out of your system. :)

You'll probably like the Shield. You can always sell one or the other after you know which one you prefer - or not sell either.

I have a 3953, 3914 LadySmith and a Shield. I like them all and they all fill the exact same Single Stack 9mm CCW role. But I find myself carrying higher capacity guns these days. But when I need to carry a single stack I tend to grab the 3953. I really like the S&W DAO trigger, and no safeties to clutter up the slide.

I have a 3913, & now have no desire for a Shield. Since the 3913 is not pristine, but rather 92%, I don't mind carrying it. I bought it to carry. How many guns can I carry at the same time? While the Shield is a fine weapon, having a 3913 means I don't need one. But if I wanted a single stack plastic gun, it would be a XDs in 45 ACP, since there is no 45 ACP Shield. GARY

As stated by a number of other forum members, keep the 3913 and add to the herd!

I carry my 3913 daily and don't feel the need to add a Shield at all...that MAY change someday, but for now that's my story and I am sticking to it!!

^^^^^^^what Big Cholla said......I had a Shield and liked it and after shooting it for six months even the trigger started to smooth out nicely....but wanted a 3913 and at the time my neighbor wanted the shield and it was at the time when they were still scarce and he offered what I had in it so it was gone....at the price one can be bought for NOW.it may be one of the best bargains in handguns going IMO......only time I am concerned about losing it after a self defense situation is when I read posts here about it.....I wouldn't be concerned about losing my LS though...................no not a "Lady Smith'.................my Louisville Slugger........if I could just find a good IWB holster for that thing:D

Had a 3913, but traded it on a Kahr T9.
Big disqualifier for cc for me was the double decocking levers.
DAO is better for me.

I don't care for the ambi safety of the 3913 either - it does make the gun less "slick." Of course you could have switched out the safety, gunsmithed the one that came on the gun to remove the off-side (left) lever, or just bought a 3913NL that only has a RH-side lever.

For someone who really doesn't want a safety anyway, the 3953 and Shield are ideal. :)

I held off on buying a Shield 9 because I already owned 5 smallish 9's, including a 3913 & CS9 (original owner of both, having ordered them from the factory as an armorer).

That didn't mean I disliked the Shield, as the ones I've used in 9 & .40 have been pretty decent little single stack plastic pistols. I just didn't need another plastic 9mm, since I already owned a pair of G26's and a SW999c.

Then, of course, I ended up buying a new 3913TSW, because it was my former duty weapon (and I'd been the only shooter/user, having selected it from remaining stock of unissued/NIB models).

Guess now that I own a 3913, CS9 and a new production 3913TSW, I really don't have any urgent "need" to consider buying either e Shield 9 or G43. ;)

FWIW, I do consider the Shield 9 to be the current equivalent of the 3913/CS9 when it comes to small single stack plastic pistols.

I now own 3 aluminum-framed 3rd gen 9mm S&W's, and the pair of Glocks & the little SW999c, so I guess I'm for both metal & plastic 9's.

I'd not have any qualms about owning/carrying a Shield 9, though. Nice, handy, accurate and nicely balanced little single stacks. If I didn't have the pair of little Glocks and the 999c, I'd not mind owning a Shield 9 at all.

I've got a 3913NL, with decocker only on the left side, and a 3914. I've also got a PPS9. I have no desire or need for a Shield.
The 3913 has the outermost step on both the decocker and slide stop melted off, so fits nice and tight to the body.

Another why I don't want to carry a gun I really like Thread.....................because I might lose it if I have to use it!

How many folks on this Forum have actually "lost" a gun, for ever, because they used it and it went into evidence? I don't think I can recall more than 2 maybe 3 "I lost my gun" vs "I heard' or "some third party" lost their gun............heck IIRC the guy who shot the kid in Fla. left the scene that night with his gun.

That said...... if the two guns were in the LGS I might just go with the Shield....... extra magazines would be easier to find.........

While I know some can't afford it Gun Writers have been preaching for at least 30 years that I remember...... to have a second gun to replace your primary if it is lost, or in the shop for repairs......

Carry the gun you own that you want to carry..... the odd or using it and losing it happening are astronomical compared to a car accident...... if you have a gun you really like, are good with and want to carry.......find a second today next week or next month....... a doable goal unless you now carry your Grandfathers 3 1/2" Registered Magnum!!!! LOL

So the 3913NL has the same shape as the Ladysmith? Or is that a LS frame?

I'm not sure if this is any sort of reply to the original post, but I'll play along,......

I don't need a Shield or a 3913 and I'm like the majority here,......I've got my 3953. And I don't worry about losing it because I already have my 4 backup 3953's(well, one of them is a 3954). If I NEED to carry smaller I have a CS9D. If I CAN carry larger, I have a 6946(and four backups,.......well, one is a 6944). Larger still,.............a 5943 backed up by a 5944(and a bunch of 5946's if weight is not a factor. I've got the same lineup in .40 in case 9mm ever goes away(except I haven't found a CS40D yet).

What was the original question again? Oh yeah,.......I think the Shield is popular because too many don't realize there are still 3rd gens out there to buy, not because they're not available. Or just laziness on their part. It does take a little more effort to find pistols/mags/holsters if they're not lined up like cookies at the LGS.
