3913 trigger.

I have a couple of 59s and a 39-2, all 3 have great triggers, light and crisp with a smooth pull. My recently purchased 3913 is a different story. It has a long gritty pull and a heavy let off. I want to like the gun but just don't enjoy shooting it.

Im wondering if my 59s and 39 have spoiled me or should I expect more from a 3913?

The gun is clean and has a low round count.

Looking at the internals the 3913 looks similar to the other two models but not as refined. In fact, it just looks cheap by comparison.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Shouldn't be like that. I have all the above, my 3rd Gens have better triggers than my first Gens, which is saying something.

There's some good Utube videos about smithing the 3rd Gen Smiths, watching them might give you some help.

This is one clue. S&W 3rd gen triggers can vary pretty widely in how they feel. I've seen some that feel light & smooth, and some are heavy and gritty. Many times, guns that haven't been fired much can be the latter, due to minor imperfections on the contact surfaces in the action.

Two options: trigger job or trigger time. I have a 5903 that was initially pretty gritty, but after a fair amount of dry fire has smoothed up considerably. You could also try polishing some of the moving parts. Tread lightly here; you may cause more harm than good. Try "S&W 3rd gen trigger job" in your search engine of choice.

Wolff Springs offers reduced power hammer springs that can lighten the pull, but again, you are tinkering with a mechanism that is a balance of at least 3 main springs, and several more minor ones. Changing just one may have a negative overall impact.
