A rough guess would be Late 1992 to Mid 1993. Congratulations on one of the best compact pistols ever made. When you get a chance we like pictures of peoples new guns.

Thanks. It seems there are quite a few who buy this pistol. My wife and I (it's for her) are taking it out to shoot today. I'll see if I remember to take a few pictures of it.

We had a great day at the range. For a little history, the last time my wife shot a handgun, I had purchased her a Jennings in .380, about 19 years ago. What a piece of junk, and it hurt her so much to shoot it, she has not shot since then. She fell in love with the 3913. We shot at 7 yards and by the end of the shooting session her groups were about the size of a silver dollar. She had quite a bit of fun, and now wants to take some handgun classes, which is quite a boon for me!

As for the pistol, I am quite impressed. No malfunctions, it ejects quite consistently to the same spot, and the recoil is less than I anticipated for a gun this light and small. If I have any complaints, it is the double-action first shot. My 1911, and even my Glock, have spoiled me. However, I only paid $379 for it, and it does feel better in the hand than the plastic brick...

The dirty end:

The discoloration at the muzzle is gunpowder:

I haven't seen enough L prefix serial numbers to make an educated guess. I would suggest calling S&W and they should be able to tell you when it shipped.

Also, Condition Yellow you have a nice 3913 there. While I don't own a 3913, I do carry the harder to find 40 cal version, the mod 4040PD. It is a great little gun that is easy to carry concealed all day. Congratulations on a nice pistol.
