Just curious who out there would trade or sell a 4516-1 for a 3914 if both guns were in exc. condition and neither was for carry but for range and all around use-this should be interesting:)

Leaving caliber out of the discussion, I'd say that I would make the trade. The 3900 seem to be more reliable (in my experience) and the 3914 is a rarer bird than the 4516-1.

I'd try to keep both, 'twere it me.

3914... love mine and it would take a helluva lot for me to part with it.

First off, let me be the first to say..."Get both"!

But seriosly folks, when considering these type of questions I always try to think of which is the harder to replace. Neither model is exactly falling off of trees these days, but both can be found if you look long and hard enough. If it has to be one or the other only you can decide which you want more, or like more. What you need to consider is if you trade the 4516 for the 3914 and decide you miss the 4516, how easy or hard would it be for you to get another one?

Another thing to consider is if you do it and miss the 4516, there are other, easier to find 45's that may fill the void left by the 4516 like a 4566 or 4506. Likewise, if you keep the 4516, you may be happy with a 3913 rather than the -14, which are easier to come by.

I'm no expert but my guess would be that Stu454 is right about availability - the 3914 may be the tougher one to get your hands on. If it was me personally, I prefer the single-stack 9's and I'd do the deal.

Some questions to ask yourself:

How large/small are your hands? The 3914 is great for smaller hands, 4516 is good for medium.

Do you reload? If this is primarily a range gun, the 3914 will be less expensive to feed.

Will you carry? 3914 is smaller and lighter. I am not going to get involved in a 9mm vs 45ACP discussion - you can read them everywhere.

Thanks for the replies and each one makes alot of sense.Actually,I have purchased a 4566 it will be here this week.I just saw a "minty" 4516-2 go for $730 on gunbroker tonight.I had a CS9 and really didn't like it that much but sold it for a premium and don't really miss it.I'm afraid I would miss the 4516-1 and just like it was mentioned about selling one to get another and missing the parted one-been down that road as we all have. There is just something about the 3914 that I can't get past! Caliber isn't a concern-I love both rounds each one has its purpose.I do like the idea of getting them both but unfortunately I can't.The 4516-1 has been a jewel to me and needed a few things when I got it.I replaced the broken trigger play spring, gave it a spur hammer and fitted a brand new barrel to her to make it "mine".I'm so indecisive about it but I hardly see any 3914's but plenty of 13's.
