Hey Guys is there such an animal? I love the 3914 for carry...just right. I have thought about removing the safety from both sides to smooth out and reduce width for better concealment. But I'd rather just get another if that pistol is made by S&W. Single stack, 9 MM, DA/SA and no safety on either side?

Dan,
Without a decocker, a DA/SA would not work. It would function, of course, but there would be no way to let the hammer down after racking or firing.

A 3953 or 3954 is the same gun in DAO. No safety or decocker.

Duh...Ok, that does make sense. So DAO or maybe a 3913 or 3914 with only one side safety/decocker?
Thanks,
Dan

3953

Here is my 3953. No external safety (except your finger). Has a very sweet double action trigger. Unless I am target shooting (why in the world would I be target/bench shooting with a compact 9mm??), the single action/double action ( in the 3913/14 model) offers no real advantage to me.

The only slight disadvantage with the DAO is that is has no double strike capability with a bad primer.

Yes, there is a DAO 3914. They were made for the NYPD for off duty carry.
No explaining why they weren't just 3954's. Maybe they have second strike capability?

There are a couple of members here who own examples. Regards 18DAI.

Very nice 3953, tgardner.

Keep in mind that there are two different 3953 models. The earlier ones, like tgarder's 3953, have a nearly half cocked hammer. This required a longer slide rear to cover the cocked hammer, but results in a shorter trigger pull.

The later production 3953s (including the TSWs) use the traditional 3913-size slide, with only a slightly cocked hammer, requiring a longer trigger pull.

Unfortunately, with both models utilizing a partially cocked hammer, the slide movement is needed to partially recock the hammer after every shot. So no double strike capability, and you must manually rack the slide after every dry fire trigger pull.

Does the 3914DAO still have the "no fire" when magazine is dropped out and one in the barrel?
