There's one for sale locally for a pretty good price- $350. Looks to have a box, and 3 8-rd mags.

Before everyone tells me to buy, my question is:

Do you ever buy a gun thinking only of the re-sale? I'm not a huge fan of the "Tactical" markings, and I haven't played with any DAO Smiths yet. Looks to be in great shape, though, so I was guessing maybe a $450-500 pistol?

Also, do these typically come with Hogue grips, and are they interchangeable with other 3rd Gens? The Hogues on this one appear to overhang the bottom of the grip. Are the Delrin's (if available) specific to this model?

Yes, I have picked up guns I had no real use for with an eye twards resale. As I downsize my accumulation, Im making out VERY well on those "investment guns".

At $350 invested in a 3953TSW, I predict you will be able to get your money back. ;) Regards 18DAI

Once a horse trader always a horse trader. FWIW I rarely buy firearms at market prices unless it's somewhat new and the prices are flat. My rule of thumb is buying at a price where if circumstances made me immediately sell it I could get at least my money back plus 30-50 percent. If you were to get some OEM grips from midway etc and gave that 3953 a good cleaning, I have no doubt you could get $450 here in Phoenix.

Add that it's one of the best single stack 9mm pistols ever made, makes this a no brainer.

3953TSW with 3 mags for $350,I'll take a dozen. Considering how 3rd gen mags have become desireable lately, that effectively lowers what you're paying for the pistol. You haven't played with any DAO Smiths, consider it a 8 shot revolver. Pull and shoot,no safety to be concerned about. I prefer my DAO's over my SA/DAs'. Forum posts report DAO triggers are better.

My guess is that a certain fireman will be along to assure you of a quick turnaround should you decide to pick up the 3953TSW for resale. If it's a pre-rail, that is....;)

Is this a rail or non rail version? Your comment about the grips overhanging at the bottom has me wondering if it's a non rail 7 shot that someone fitted the 8 round grips to so they could use 8 round magazines.

If it's a pre rail with box, it's a pretty rare variation and the right buyer will probably pay close to the upper end of your range.

Non-rail. I thought the same thing when I saw the Hogues overhanging. How hard to find the correct grips for it? Also, the mags were all 8-rounders with the pinky curve. Seems like someone tried to turn it into a standard 3953.

If it comes with original grips, I'll buy it. Will CS9 mags work with it?

In stock at Numrich/Gun Parts Corp. right now! :)

I expected them to be much more. Now I see why folks aren't so leery to attempt their own "Big Dogs" for the CS pistols.

I'm going to try and take a trip to see it sometime today, if it's still there. I'll let you know what I find out.

Grips for the full size 3913/53 guns cost more. There is low demand for the non rail TSW grips.

If you order them, take a look at them when they come. I ordered a couple of sets and one of them was warped. By the time I wanted to use it and actually looked at them, the Numrich 30 day return period had exprired.

Gary wins the Prize...

Pre-rail, with Hogue's to adapt to the 8-rounders. This set up doesn't really look out of place. The pieces fit nicely together, and the Hogues finish out flush with the backstrap.

4 reasons why it's still there and not in my ride:

1. The big one- someone used what I would guess to be a dremel to notch the inside front of the triggerguard. I'm guessing this was for the installation of a laser or light? It wasn't a very smooth alteration.

2. The sights are pretty worn.

3. Only 3 8-rd mags with the curved buttplate. No seven-rounders (rats!).

4. The original grips not included. I know these are inexpensive, but combined with the other reasons, probably not worth the trouble.

The pistol was in really good condition. If I was looking for a shooter, I might have offered $300, considering there's almost $100 in mags, plus the box. But, as my original post was about whether or not to "flip" the gun, I decided against another "shooter."

I'm mildly disappointed and relieved at the same time!

Ouch!!! How bad was it? Was it possibly fixable?

I'll bet team member BMCM could fix it... :) ... blindfolded! :D

No doubt, but Team Member Pete would sever a finger just taking the grips off, let alone playing with power tools.

I'll leave that one for the professionals. Or the un-informed, which I am not one of, thanks to you guys!
