3G phone networks going away

I think there should be a class action lawsuit against the manufacturers that continued to install 3G technology when they knew full well that 3G was being eliminated and when.

Especially Honda, with model years as late as 2021/2022 listed in the article, no excuse for that.

About a month ago I got a visit from my home security system provider. They updated my system from 3G to 5G. After many years, I had to update my old 3G cell phone to a 4G smartphone last week. I would far rather have kept my old 3G phone. I don't need to text, have internet access, etc. All I need is to talk and listen, but that is no longer an option. I understand that 4G will remain in service through at least 2030.

i.ve been getting messages from cricket that after 2/22 my phone may not work without a software upgrade. could never get it to do it, so went into their store and the guy said it was my old SIM card that needed replacing. Charged me $10 which cricket then gave back as a refund. Kid running the store was good. A real geek and native english speaker for a change

So, you want to make millions of dollars for lawyers and make sure that the people who were affected get $25.00 gift certificates for new phones?

New phone ain't gonna help, it's a unit in the car that needs changing.

No... and we're not just talking phones either.

The sentiment behind my post is that the auto makers should not be allowed to act so irresponsible and should be taken to task for installing technology in their cars, that they knew full well would be shortly obsolete.

Some or many people paid extra to add in the features that utilized 3G... how would you feel if you just purchased a 2021 Honda and paid for a feature that became obsolete at the start of 2022?

There are cars that get software updates that will not longer be able get as a result of 3G shutting down.

So the automakers should be given a pass on this?

Back when GPS manufacturers where each claiming to be the main reason for success in the Sand Box they had developed a better display screen that was viewable at wider angles plus other enhancements.
When they said to pass the old gear on to newbie boat owners we refused to sell old technology.
They bit the bullet and restocked our inventory.
Money is not an issue when you use 125 gallons an hour at cruise speed on a 7 day run at $4 a gallon.
Always troll when moving forward at least saves $$$ on fresh fish.
Wahoo!!! :D

Funny story of non-glare radar/sonar/chart plotter plastic overlays.
Installed the first one on a radar and it was great.
Put on my polarized sunglasses and the screen went black.
Wrong orientation.
Boats have sail plans and weather windows and the proper plastic was sent out quickly.

My agency bought hardened MilSpec tablets to use with our patient care record system. The company had sold many to the military, specifically the USMC for use in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The USMC couldn't break these tablets, but our EMTs and paramedics seemed to have no problem doing so.

Since I was in charge of the project, I saw every broken tablet that came in. That included one with tread marks on the case. When asked, the EMT said it must have fallen off the back bumper. I guess the damage happened when they backed over it while looking for it.

As I told more than one vendor. If they gave one of our guys two bowling balls, he'd lose one, break the other, and claim it happened on his day off.

Was thinking on buying a flip phone this year, and my truck has those fancy roll down windows. If it wasn't for those stupid answering systems everywhere, would still be using a hard wired rotary phone at home.
