It had a pinned barrel but the cylinder was not recessed. Could that be correct? It was mint with no wear at all but had goodyears on. Is $700 reasonable?

Recessed cylinders were only on magnums and rimfires. Is it 45 Colt and what's the barrel length? $700 might be alittle high with rubbers but I'm not sure, I don't see these for sale much.

I see now it's a 4".

Might be a tad on the high side, but if you want it don't let $50 keep you from buying it. I mean, that's just one tank of gas, right? :)

Judging by what they have been asking for the 4" 25-5
on Gunbroker, 700 is liveable. The 4"s are more rare than the 6"
N frame factory stocks are still somewhat reasonable if you are
not in a big hurry. They stopped the pinned barrel in the early
80's and if it's as clean as described, I would jump. I have one
myself and love it. It had aftermarket stocks too, but I found
a set equal to the condition for a fair price later.

Where would a person find a set of S&W grips for a model 25? I would love to have an original set on my 25.

Next question is what sort of price are the grips bringing?

I sprung $600 for mine but it had no blueing loss it did how ever have the ugliest camo pachs on it I have ever seen. I would have given 700 for mine depends on how bad you want it. you can see it under "this weeks prunder" . It shoots great also even though the chambers are a little big from what I measured. I put some k frame grips on till I could find some N frame targets for it. still looking. Now if only I could find the mod 29. Doeboy

You want checkered Goncalo Alves target grips. I'd find out where the old cops hang out and check there. 4" 25-5 was a popular cop gun before everyone started getting autos. Contact the union from some large police departments and put an ad in their union paper. "Wanted to buy: Factory Wood grips from Smith and Wesson revolver." When they call, then you can find out if they have an N-Frame or not or if the grips are factory.

One good source is right on this forum. 75-100 bux would be about
right for a decent set is the most I would pay. Most of the sellers
are out to make a profit on grips that were take offs or scrounged
from a way back gun show, instead of trying to give a fellow a decent
break.
