I got this from a buddy. He said it is a Model 10-5. However that is not on the frame after swinging out the cylinder. The serial number is C387319. The 319 is a smaller font than the C387. The numbers on the frame are U8753 5, with a 3 below that. And 85736 below that. Is this a model 10? The barrel is pinned. Thanks in advance.

The number on the butt is all that matters as it is the serial number. Other numbers mean nothing after factory assembly. Yes it likely is a model 10 or pre 10 as in M&P. There have been in excess of 6 million made so nothing really special as far as value unless it can be confirmed owned by someone of interest.

The serial number is C387319….

That serial makes it a late "pre-Model 10" M&P likely made in 1957. The stamping of the MOD 10 started in mid-1958 somewhere in the C 420- or low C 430-range; I'm not sure that we know a definite cut-off.

Pretty sure he said "likely made in 1957"----something along those lines----that close enough? If not, you can get a letter that'll tell you (exactly) when it shipped---and to whom------and this particular model is generally thought of as being shipped pretty much as soon as it was put into its box. The letter goes for about $100---as little as $75 for members of the collectors organization and the historical foundation.
