40 cal shield

Or a stock S&W barrel... Don't they work in the Shields like the big brother M&P's?

I sent an email to S&W specifically asking if the Shield 9mm barrel could be used in a .40 Shield:

"Can the factory 9mm Shield barrel be installed in a my .40 Shield? I realize that, if this were possible, I would have to obtain 9mm magazines. I do have a couple SIGs for which I have the factory .40 and .357 barrels plus aftermarket Bar-Sto 9mm barrels. I certainly would prefer to use a factory barrel if approved by S&W, however."

The reply:

"It is not possible to change from .40 to 9mm or 9mm to .40. The difference in caliber size makes it not possible."

This reply was from Customer Service. It may still be possible, but I sure would like to have S&W bless it before I tried it. Previously I had sent an email to Storm Lake shortly after the .40 Shield came out asking if they were looking at a 9mm barrel for the .40 Shield. On May 13 I received this reply:

"We have started a waiting list for the Shield model. If you would like to have your name added, we will contact you when the option becomes available."

CC`s good. shoots better. had the 1st. 3 letters of the serial # i had written down of the 40 cal. mag. droppers. it seems certain group runs have the conditions. my 2 cents. falls under QC and the crews that run them. a machinist/fitter for a few years, & doing prototype work, every machined dim. had to be checked on certain parts. every part, every dim. then QC would rule a 5 part or 10 part check. so to keep a better check of the runs. and the critical parts, castings, had to be batched checked by QC if milling work had to be done on them before we could even mill them. REWORK, is profits LOST. i`m sure someone at S&W is looking for answers to the problems. last place i worked at, a foreman needed a prototype job done right away. told him 3 days. that`s if you have the bolts, nut etc. to assembly the parts i had to make in tommorrow. 2ed. day, 3rd. time, he told me he had to put it on truck. told him to take the job and put it on the truck. it was unassembled, not finished. shop forman came to me w/ a smile on his face. i told him i told the new boss 3 days. they brought me back all the parts, never saw the young boss again concerning that job. QC used to tell me i made their job easier.

Ok, so I said no issues with my .40.... I stand corrected. After about 650 rounds the extended mag falls out every time. Now as far as my background, I am not a gunsmith but... I could make a shield or any handgun if I wanted to take the time. I am an inventor/machinist/engineer... I build and manufacture machinery for the textile industry and others. My grandfather used to make the M1 andM14 as well as the original 155 mm field guns for the army. With that said I have called Smith and Wesson and they dont want to hear it, they just want me to ship it back, so off it goes. I cannot blame them. I will wait to see what they say. In my case again no issues till about 650 rounds... The gun is rock solid and the issue for me is the design of the actual magazine, and it is not the notch in the side for the release or the length of the release catch itself. I will put together a video to show what my issue was and how I fixed it. I have to say after 300 rounds of testing today I cannot get the magazine to drop.

Curious as to what the first three letters of your gun's SN is. Thanks.

Does S&W say it's OK to swap barrels in their other models like the 40c? I know it's done, but do they officially approve it?

Seems from a business perspective, they would not advertise this so as not to impact sales of new pistols.
