40 caliber semi automatic pistols

Feat your eyes on this beauty...

The Smith & Wesson Sigma SW40VE circa 2004, the pinnacle of precision handgun engineering for the time. It features a meticulously bead-blasted Stainless Steel Slide and Barrel, DuPont Nylon Frame, a proprietary accessory rail, and the legendary Sigma Safe-Action trigger. Designed with American Law Enforcement, Military, and the average working man in mind, the SW40VE's 12lb Double Safe Action trigger is like your average day on the job. It's long, it's hard, and just when you think that it will never end, the trigger breaks with a satisfying snap just like when you punch out at the end of your shift.
Chambered in the powerful .40 S&W cartridge, featuring the high magazine capacity of the 9mm Luger with the legendary one-shot-stopping-power of the .45 ACP, it truly offers the best of both worlds. Best of all, unlike the 9mm Luger, the .40 S&W is a 100% American-Made cartridge, which much like the nation itself, is bigger, better, and bolder than any European nation could ever hope to be. *cue Hulk Hogan theme*

Unlike some of the other firearms offered by Smith & Wesson, the Sigma Series lacks a Performance Center variant. Why? Because you cannot improve on perfection, which is precisely what Smith & Wesson achieved when they designed the Sigma based on the blueprints of the venerable Glock 17. Yes, the Smith & Wesson Sigma Series represents the redefinition of perfection.

Unfortunately, the Sigma Series is something of an under-appreciated gem. It had a bit of a rocky start like most truly innovative firearms, and the effeminate Commie-sympathizers living amongst us couldn't tolerate the heavy trigger because they cannot tolerate an honest days work either, which as previously stated, the Sigma Safe-Action Trigger is the very personification of. Furthermore, their frail hands couldn't tolerate the mighty man-stopping recoil of the .40 S&W.

Fortunately though, the Sigma Series has endured the test of time and remains in production to this very day in a new and improved configuration known as the SD (Sigma Delta) Series, a 4th Generation variant which combines the aesthetics of the S&W's M&P Series with the rugged reliability of the Sigma Series to form a pistol which provides the very best of both worlds.

And what a beauty it tiz!
Is SW still paying Glock money from the patent lawsuit?:)

I'll never shy away from a great deal on a .40, I've got a bunch of them...10's and .40's. Great round to reload. If you reload 10, then .40 is a no brainer. Here's my list:
S&W's
610 no dash
1006
CS40-converted to 10mm
CS40D
4040
4013 x2-one to be converted to 10mm
4046

Non S&W's
EAA Witness 10mm
Sig Mauser M2-converted to 10mm
Sig 229 x2
Sig 239 x2
AMT .40 Backup-soon to be converted to 10mm

I'm also looking for a Charter Arms Pit Bull in .40. I think it would make a great K frame sized 10mm snub.

bc1023, you have a very nice collection there. I just don't get all the 40S&W, verse 9mm bashing.

I love my .40's. No need to post photos, they're all common stock: FNS 40, Sig P320, Sig P229 & Sig P224. They all shoot well. My most commonly carried .40 is my FNS 40 - it fits perfectly in my conceal carry jogging holster.

I like the .40 S&W round. A .40 caliber slug weighing 180 gr. doing a nominal 950 is nothing to sneeze at.

I carried a Glock 27 for years, but I gave it to my son when I retired.

I've got an FBI commemorative Glock 22 and a Beretta 96. The .40 I shoot the most isn't a semi-auto. See below.

The .40 is a great round - I worked many police shootings with it and it always worked splendidly. Would a 9mm have worked as well? Maybe, but I doubt it. It sure plowed through windshields like nobody's business. I never considered it a hard-kicking round, but I guess some do.

The switch from .40 to 9mm was all about one thing - ammo costs for quals.

Funny! Those are almost the same numbers as the original .41 magnum police load (before the ammo makers hopped it up). The .41 magnum police load was/is touted as quite the man stopper. The .41 magnum police load was developed to be better than a .357 without being a .44, in much the same manner as the .40 was developed from a 10mm, which was made to answer the 9's performance back in the day.

I have a Glock 35 and 9mm and 357 Sig barrel. I like it best in the original 40. If energy means anything, 40 was, is, and always be more powerful than the 9mm.

My only .40 S&W is mid 90s era HK USP. I find that this platform seems well suited for the .40, most likely because it was designed around the cartridge. Also, I got a pretty deal as it seems like a .45 USP goes for quite a bit more on the used market. On the other hand, the USP in 9mm seems a bit oversized.

Nothing beats HK quality, but I will say the DA trigger is not nearly as nice as one found on a Beretta 92, which reminds me of a Smith revolver. However, I do like the manual of arms. It can be used cocked and locked like a Browning or Colt, decocked like a Sig, or carried on safe like a Beretta.

I never had any use for the .40, it was the answer to a question I wasn't asking. I had .45s and 9mms, so why bother?

Then the obama ammo rush cleared the shelves and for a while the only ammo I saw was 40. So I put it in the back of my mind to get one some day, just in case. Summit got a bunch of H&K USP cop turn-ins and I bought one.

They were designed specifically for the .40S&W and do it very well. It's not in my EDC lineup, the P320 in .357 does that too well, but it's in the safe ready to go if I need it.

With the present excitement I did an inventory and counted 100 rounds of .40 range ammo, 100 rounds of self-defense, and maybe 30 or so SD in loaded mags.

I upped the SD ammo by 80 and that will do for now given how much .357 and .45 I have this time around.

I like 40s. I have a number of them. All are LE trades.
I have G22, G23, G27, and a G35. I'm undecided if I'll get a G24 -it'd round out the Glock 40 collection.

I have a Sig Pro 2340 in .40 and I also have a S&W4006.

I think this is the golden age of LE cheap - money wise - police trade 40s

I have never quite understood the question why the .40? Personal choice and likes is the reason. Just sticking to handgun calibers it is just as easy to ask why the .38 Special instead of .357 Magnum or why the .44 Special instead of .44 Magnum.

I think that there are a lot of folks who just don't shoot well with the .40 S&W cartridge, find the recoil uncomfortable, and so to them the 9mm Luger is an objectively better choice.
However, it doesn't stop there because they're arrogant, and therefore if 9mm Luger is best for them, then obviously it must be best for everyone. Hence the sweeping assertions like that anyone who shoots well with the .40 would shoot even better with the 9mm.

Also, I can't help but feel like there's a bit of insecurity in there as well, (at least amongst the full-blown haters) given just how offended they get at the mere mention of the cartridge and the compulsion to insult others who like the cartridge. Not to mention the sheer drive to denigrate the cartridge at every available opportunity, as well as the warped logic that .40 S&W is completely useless because according to some nondisclosed testing conducted by the FBI there's no appreciable difference in effectiveness between .40 S&W and 9mm Luger. Granted that this only applies to the extremely hostile haters rather than those who simply dislike it.
