.40 Shield - lessons learned

I could be wrong in this, but I seem to remember hearing that the shield was designed to be a 9mm and the 40 was an afterthought. As opposed to the regular M&P which was specifically designed around the 40.

Rastoff: Not sure that I understand the photo and your statement. Since that is a 9mm in a 9mm barrel. ? Be Safe,

I think he's just trying to demonstrate what a fully supported chamber looks like despite the caliber example shown.

Where'd you hear that from?

Yep, I totally boned that pic. It's supposed to be a .40 in a .40 barrel. I'll correct it in a little.

RogerS&W is right though, it was to show the fully supported chamber.

Shield in .40 and 9mm. Maybe i missed something or im not seeing something correctly.

You are not seeing something correctly.
In order to check for proper chamber support, you will have to turn around the barrels in pic#1 to show the feed ramp side. It's the amount of casing that is showing right near the feed ramp that is the unsupported part and subsequently responsible for KaBooms.

Almost Smitty. You have to angle down a little so we can see the chamber. Just like the first pic in the earlier post.

Even so, you can see the unsupported part of the case in the 9mm on the right.

LMAO @ supported and unsupported theories. I'll touch back on this later on. But im pretty positive people are blowing this way out of proportion. As we've seen people do this same thing in the past and come up with this same theory of theirs.

Chamber support varies between all weapons and manufacturers. Actually it can vary from particular machines on the assembly line also.

IMO, these guys need to look at brand of ammo (cheap ammo or quality ammo). Then they need to look at figuring out if these weapons have anything in common. Production dates, possibly even the same machine stamps on the slide. I dunno what the slide would do with chamber support. But the slides surely cant be the only thing they keep track of on the assembly line. I'd be willing to bet there is something they are over looking.

PS: The above pic of the FS 40 is not fully supported. Notice its only supported up to the groove (or where the extractor meets) Fully supported chambers come all the way up to around the rim of the case (such as a revolver). The unsupport u guys are calling on the Shield is caused by the feed ramp cuts. Which in return also causes the weapon to feed more reliably. Notice the pic of the FS does not have the same feed ramp as that of the Shield. The ramp of the FS has a much smaller smaller degree of incline than that of the Sheild. These feed ramp cuts were never an issue until pressures started climbing in factory loads.
