There is a pretty good little gun show in the area this weekend. There are usually some reasonably priced dealers there. I'm going, I've got cash in hand, and I would love to come home with a 40 Shield. What are my chances of finding one? And I'm not finding any pricing information other than the list price. Could I expect to get it for much less than list right now?

Your chances are better finding a .40 than it is finding a 9mm, lol

Grab the .40 and buy the 9mm barrel and mags for it. You'll have both guns in one and not have to wait near as long.

I wish you the best of luck. I went to a fairly large gun show in my area two weeks ago and didn't see a single Shield. I'm not in the market for one at the moment, but I was really surprised to not see one at any point at the show.

My Shield 40 was special ordered. When it came in, the salesman brought out a 9mm. I caught the mistake and he went to the stockroom and came back with the only 40 they had. He told me they had about ten of the 9mm guns... My guess is that the 9mm is more readily available.

Current Gunbroker auctions finish at or above msrp. I talked to 6 different gun shops in Nebraska today and only one had Shields in stock. They are asking $499.

I will try to resist until I can find one at a reasonable price.

Here in MI it's much easier to get a 9 than a 40. Was on a wait list for 3 months for my 9, girlfriend's dad got on a waitlist for a 40 the same day and is no where near getting his...

I think the .40 is becoming a bit more popular now that word has gotten out about the conversion to 9mm. Since everyone knows they can easily convert the .40 now, they buy it instead of waiting for the actual 9mm.

So now i guess the .40 flys off the shelf just as fast, lol

I just had a .40 transfered to me in Ohio from Riverview Sales in East Windsor, Connecticut
for $450 plus $20 shipping. The number is 860-370-9939. As of last Friday, they had a good supply of .40's, and the 9's were trickling in. Ask for Nicole, she seems to have a good grip on things in that store!

PS ... love it. Even though it's my Christmas present my son let me shoot a few rounds out of it in the back yard ... just fine!!

The LGS that I frequent just got a number of 9mm Shields in stock. They said they've sold a number already but still have several left. When you click on the pic of the Shield on their homepage is just takes you to their weekly flyer...no shields in the ad. You will have to call. I bought my Shield through them a couple of months ago...totally dig it! Good luck!

Went to the show. One dealer had a .40 Shield. He wanted $470 for it. All the guns on his table were priced over MSRP. He wouldn't budge.

I can wait.

I had a similar experience at the gun show in our town last week. Dealer there had 3 Shields, two 9mm, one .40. Wanted $599 for them. When I told him I would wait, he said that the S&W factory had been damaged by Sandy and Shields wouldn't be shipping for 4 months. I told him I would still wait because I was not paying $150 OVER MSRP for anything. He shrugged. Parasite.

Gentlemen.. I can GUARANTEE that the bold-ed statement above is UNTRUE..

The current situation is,, the S&W factory is working 24/7..
Three production shifts and for the first time in memory THREE Firing line/Range shifts.. to test the production..

The demands for S&W products is so great that the lag time is being created by production line schedules..

Very simply the orders for a particular gun outstrips the production time alloted, until the NEXT model must be ramped up and produced.. and so on and so on..

It would be great if S&W had a plant to produce each and every model... but sadly it is not reality...

Are they being produced YES.... are they being shipped YES..

There is simply not enough of them to go around at this point.. ..

As to a dealer's mark up..??? I cannot/will not comment..

Good Hunting!!:D

Here in S. Florida, the 40 Shield is easy to find. It's the 9mm that's scarce. GARY

I just bought the last 40 Shield at Gander Mountain West Palm Beach yesterday. They told me word got out that they had them in stock and all 4 sold that day. There were no 9mm's there.

The local gun store where I placed my order for a Shield 9 in Cincinnati was told they have at least another 3 months before they get any in. They were told this after I have already been waiting 2 months and then this bomb. Needless to say, I am not very pleased with the delay.

Driving through GA I came across a gun shop and stopped on a whim, they had a 9 and 2 .40's. I purchased a .40 at list and it is shipping to my FFL as we speak.
Color me HAPPY!!!

Smart man, now go buy u a 9mm barrel and a 9mm mag for it. Then you will have both guns and well worth the money.

My local gun shop here in Jacksonville, FL has four .40 in stock, and I think two 9mm, though someone was looking at the 9mm as I was leaving the range today.
