Does anyone have any experience with a sigma 40 VE? I just recently purchased one, but have not had time to try it out.

There are several owners on this forum, including myself. What do you want to know?

1. Is it reliable? Yes, unless defective or too much "improved." S&W has excellent warranty service.

2. Is it a target gun? NO, it is an entry level service pistol. It can be used in IDPA SSP competition. Power factor of 125 only is required of the ammunition.

3. Does it kick? Sure, especially with full power .40. I have a handload of 4 gr of HP38 behind a 180 gr Berry bullet that is a pussycat for IDPA SSP.

4. Should you immediately start removing or cutting springs to "improve" it? Well, if it is just to be a range gun, OK, but for a defense carry gun, probably not.

5. Are there lots of "goodies" for it like for the Glock? Not really. Plenty of holsters, though.

Great this is what I was looking for. I bought it as a inexpensive defense gun. Your information is spot on. Thanks Tim

I second what OKFC05 said. It's a good gun at a reasonable price. You can clean up the trigger a ton by just doing some polishing. I have the Wolff spring in mine and have only had 3 misfires ever. I don't know how many rounds have passed through it but the gun is about 7 years old and I'd say on a bad year it sees 500-1000 rounds.

It's not a target pistol as stated, but for carry or home defense it's a fine weapon!

I picked it up for $249.00 I didn't think it was a bad deal. I have looked for it online but cannot find one that looks just like it. A friend of mine seems to think it is a sigma 40 VE (all black)

When I first bought my 40VE I had read the post about it not being a dependable firearm. So my daughter and I went to the range to check it out. We fired it to see how accurate it was. It is not a tack driver but it still hit where I aimed. We then started to rapid fire the 40VE to see if we could make it jam. As she shot I would reload the magazines. We fired as soon as the front sight was between the rear sight not taking time to align the 3 dots. We did this for over 200 rounds and the barrel was so hot you couldn't hold it. The SW40VE fired everytime the trigger was pulled and it was new out of the box. I don't about the other 40VEs but mine is a keeper. It's had abut 300 more rounds put through it and it barks everytime the trigger is pulled.

you mind sharing where you got it for $249?

I'd buy another 9VE in a heartbeat for $249.

The bane of Bloomberg.
I love that place.
I have valet parking there now.

They said it was used, but there is not a mark on it. Looks like it was only fired a handfull of times. William, you saw it, what do you think??

Good deal...enjoy it! I have the 9VE all black(allied forces) model...and I really wanted an all black .40, but all I could find locally was the two tone stainless/black one. No big deal..I like both of them equally!

Mine will cost 290 after rebates....but I didn't pay any shipping/ffl transfer/ or sales tax...so I made out pretty well I think. Plus I'm getting two free mags for each one.

ive had mine for about a year,, never any problems with it..shot a bunch of rounds through it and have smoothed the trigger and lightened it to about 1/2 of factory...gonna start to reload for it so i can shoot more(my wife luvs that part

)cant beat it for the $$$
have fun

Tim, is the slide black? Can you take a picture and post it? I'd be curious to see what it is you have. If I recall there is an all black model that is being made for the Afghan troops or something like that.

It's all black, he's got it on lay-a-way right now.(We're co-workers)
I'm gonna go with him when he picks it up.
Then we're stopping off by a range!

It is used but perfect.

I had a chance to pick up a used 9VE at a local gun shop not long ago for $240.00. I was there when the guy traded it in and he said he only shot it once and it looked like it. So I went right to the bank and got the $$ but the shop sold it by the time I got back so I took advantage of the S&W rebate and bought a new one. By the way best money I ever spent mine shoots well and it fits the hand like a glove .... No it's no target queen but when I take it in the woods I don't mind if I drop it in some mud and it goes bang every time.
