4006 CHP and 4013 sighting

Where did you find those mags and how much were they?

I was looking at Gunbroke and found them it was 4 new old stock 99 cents 5 day auction I bid 65 and had them then others jumped in I got all for 100 bucks . Got them Sat all new in the wrappers .I was just going to get all new springs for the ones I have but wanted this lot of 4 .

That's an excellent price for New-In-Wrap magazines. Congrats.

I had a bunch of them I picked up over the years and still have them , back then you could not give them away . now I see some places asking 50 ea for used . . I checked the used mag box a week ago at a gun shop and scored a real nice one blue follower for 15 bucks . also a like new Shield mag for 15 I put it back .

I opened just one of the new old stock mags and went through about 30 rounds and it was flawless . The gun shoots good for me with 180 grain What ammo did CHP use . I do alright with 165 better with 180

The gun I got looked like new , just a little wear on the right side of the grip . but still real nice I put a new pair on and it does look new now . The guide rod is super smooth and theirs no chatter marks on my barrel like some .

Is there anything about the CHP 4013s that distinguishes them from any other 4013?

I don't believe it has any of the special features like the CHP 4006TSW models. It does have matching #'s on the barrel, frame and slide that are different from the serial #. I bought one of each CHP model from Summit and have to say that the 4013TSW is one of my favorites out of all of the 3rd gens I have. It just feels right in my hand, and I'm able to shoot it well. I'm going to have to obtain a Shorty Forty to go with it eventually, and a replacement for the 6906 that I let go to a friend who wanted it.

Do the CHP4013TSW models have the the trigger play spring deleted like the CHP4006TSW models?

John?

I didn't think it did- here's a picture of it. I didn't actually realize that it didn't have one until I looked at it carefully.

John?

Why wouldn't they be the same? It was just a compact, aluminum framed version of their TSW duty weapon. The same reasons for removing the TP springs from their older A-D series guns, and not wanting them from the get-go when they ordered 4006TSW's, would still apply to a compact 4013TSW version. (I was told this by my friend who retired from the CHP as a traffic officer who also served as a field weapons training officer.)

Fascinating, cnette01! Thank you for the picture!

Unlike the CHP4006TSW, it looks like your CHP4013TSW has a hole in the draw bar for the trigger play spring rivet.

Or is that just a punch mark or divot and the hole has not been drilled.

Both pistols use the "same" draw bar (same size and shape, but different part numbers).

I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned, but I think the CHP4013TSW pistols came from an earlier order than the CHP4006TSW pistols.

The CHP4013TSW pistols have the same configuration of the non-CHP, pre-rail 4013TSW pistols with the MSE/MSF serial number prefixes which were primarily shipped in 1997 and 1998.

S&W customer service tells me that my CHP4006TSW shipped in 2007 and indeed, these pistols share practically all of the styling and features of the "Millenial" (post circa 2000) TSW models.

Thanks again!

John

Like I told cnette01 in my previous post, the CHP4013TSW pistols appear to be from an earlier iteration of the 4013TSW while the CHP4006TSW pistols seem to be from the later design.

And possibly a different order specification.

I pointed out the differences in the drawbars.

Yes, there is a hole drilled in the drawbar. And the serial # begins with MSF.

It wouldn't be surprising that the uniform and plainclothes models were ordered at different times. When the CHP decided to take bids to replace their 4013TSW's with plastic, and selected the M&P 40C's, it was a year or more later before they decided to take (3?) bids to replace their 4006TSW's with plastic. I only learned that when visiting with the LE rep who handled the order one day.

The only way to find out about the differences in any specifications would be to ask the member who is a CHP gunsmith. The CHP has been known to make requests of S&W for special features, and the factory does it.

The drawbars have been revised and improved over the years. I remember chuckling when I learned that S&W was using drawbar trigger play springs installed for their DAO guns, even though the spring serves no purpose in a DAO gun. The reason? They said it was easier to just grab drawbar assemblies from one bin of assembled drawbars, whether they were making TDA or DAO guns that day, and not worry about trying to keep separate drawbars without springs to go min the DAO guns.

Now, I didn't bother to look inside the first couple of new CHP 4006TSW's that came through our range (they use our range at times) to see if they'd made a run of 10,000 double stack drawbars sans the hole for the spring/rivet for the CHP runs. I just knew they were ordering them without the TP springs (and decock-only, spurless hammers, integral rails and their own numbers).
