I know there are a ton of 3rd gen fans out there so please help me choose. At our adventure outdoors they have a ton of 5906 & 4006 from a recent law enforcement trade in. I was wondering which to choose fixed or adjustable both are the same price but in my books it says the adjustable is worth $100 more but I have questions ease of maintenance or custom replacements. I kind of like the fixed better but the steel guards on the adjustable look more durable. What should I do ?

I believe it's going to be easier to find replacement sights for the fixed sight versions of the guns. If you prefer the adjustable ones, pick a gun with them, but I don't believe you're getting a better "deal" just because it's priced the same as the non-adjustable ones.

This is of course if the price of the guns themselves are reasonable to begin with. If that is the case, I'd be more concerned about being able to grab both a 5906 and a 4006.;)

I prefer the Novak Fixed Sights on the later models - just seems right on a service gun. I don't care for the wings in the adjustable sight guns at all, but some people love them.

Both are fine I prefer non "wings"
I have both

I have the fixed sights. I'd rather have the adjustable but not for any real reason other than personal preference.

Buy one of each in each caliber. :)

I have both and prefer the adjustable, unless you are going to replace them with night sights or something.

I have the adjustable sights on my 5906, which is pretty much a range gun, these days, and I really like them.

It's really nice to just take a screwdriver and set the sights EXACTLY where you want them.

Different weights of bullets hit to a different point of impact. In 9mm, the bullets generally weigh from 90 gr. to 147 gr.

In 40 cal, they weigh from 135 gr. to 185 gr.

With the fixed sights, generally only one weight of bullet will hit close to the point of aim. For lighter or heavier weights, you have to aim a little high or low, to get the bullet to go where you want it to.

With the adjustable rear sight, that's just not a problem.
