One of my primary carry guns for a while now has been a 442. When firing it, ( tried several types of grips I had around) I would quickly develop an abraded / open/ bleeding area at the base of my thumb. I had some medical coban around and tried wrapping the grip several times to se3 if it would help. It did well! About a 100 round practice session today with no bleeding! Figured this might help some other people out !IMG_1258.webp

Perhaps looking somewhat like this..? :

Caused by using exposed backstrap Hogue monogrip on a 5" 460V, coupled with (proper) high hand hold.
The "ears" at the top of the grips flexes slightly under recoil, pinching the web of the hand.

Not an issue with the original Hogue Tamers that covers the backstrap.
In effect, the same as the tape does.

I have a 442 that I had been shooting LEOSA qualification for years, no problem. Until a couple of months ago.

I ran a qualification with my new 340 PD and got a good bleeder right where DT's is. This was during a fast draw and shoot part. I figured I didn't set my grip quite right. Next year I'll put a band aid in the proper spot on the thumb. Or I'll do a lot of practice with that medical wrap. Does it come in discrete black?

Thanks for the post, good idea.

Easier to find in electric pink/green/blue, but yup. Super soft and grippy and not something you would want to leave on for carry, but 30 seconds to put on and pull off for a range session. OP had a great idea; I was considering silicon fuse tape until I just swapped for slightly bulkier grips.

BTW--what you want to look for is "cohesive bandage" at any drug store. LE in NoVA? Next time you call one to a scene, any field EMT or medic would be happy to toss you a roll to try.

I get DT-thumb anytime I shoot a J with full-on loads. Normally I have a small callus there. You can feel a thumb-bone bump inside in that area.
