Did the 4006 LE models all omit that feature? It seems to be a common trait with law enforcement marked 4006 thats the trigger guards are all smooth, whereas public sale models all have checkered trigger guards common to the 3rd Gen lineup.

There were, I believe, three different guard designs/revisions. Some of the earlier ones didn't have the checkering. I'm not absolutely sure, but I don't think there were any frames produced w/o checkering because of a specific LE agency request or special order.

Here is my 1st year production (August 1990) 4006 which I purchased new. Although I was an LEO back then, it was a private purchase not related to any agency contracts with S&W. As you can see it has the checkering.

I couldn't remember, so I got out my Model 4006, a California Parks variant. It didn't have any checkering on the trigger guard either.
