Hey all,

I finally re-entered owning a 3rd gen after foolishly selling a 4506 a few years back to fund something I now can't even remember. Anyway, I always loved the S&W autos after learning to shoot on a 639 I'm thankful to have held onto.

I recently found a deal on 2 pistols at a local pawn shop, a 4006TSW and a 4046TSW. I ended up picking up both, but the 4006 has a pretty loose rail (riveted). I read of a few people tightening it up with a punch and hammer, but I didn't have such luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix to this?

Best,

kmk

Drive out rivets, thread and tap and install screws. That is how I plan to reattach mine if I ever decide to put back on my 4013tsw.

You could contact the mothership and see if they will fix under warranty.

I guess I should follow up with this:

I called the old man and happened to be talking about this issue. From his advice, I ended up supporting the rivets on a solid piece of steel (in my case a jackstand) and tapped with the hammer. With a more solid backing they snuggled up almost instantly with pretty light force. Apparently my wooden work bench just didn't back them firmly enough.

Lesson learned, you can always learn a thing or two from dad no matter how old or educated you get.
