4013 question

I am back to thinking about getting a 40 cal. I plan on it being a carry pistol but also something to take to the range. I have a 3913 that I like, but dont have anything in a 40. (My 4566 will be the cold weather carry).

I have heard the 4013 is not accurate and not reliable, well???

Anyone have one or any first hand info on these?

My experience was good on accuracy, fair on reliability. I was issued a 4013 while serving as a medic on a tactical team. It outshot the 4006s that the other team members carried, even with the shorter barrel. Sadly, my agency changed ammo loads like underwear, constantly shopping either for the cheapest combat load, or the trendiest. I kept the gun spotless and well lubricated but still had some feeding probs occasionally. Pretty sure I wasn't limp-wristing. Could be if you found a load that functioned well and you stuck with it, the gun would do better for you. Clunky yes, but not a bad gun. Mine was a pre-TSW.

I have a single stack 4013 and really like it. It makes a good carry piece due to its size and shoots rather well. I have not experienced any reliability problems with it. I shoot lead roloads for practice and it feeds them with out a problem. I have run a number of factory loads of various brands and configurations with no problem. I expect this winter it will become my primary carry piece. Plus you can always do something with this pistol that you cannot do with a glock- pull the trigger twice incase of a misfire.

My double-stack 4013 TSW has never failed to fire, never had a jam. It's accuracy is better than mine.

I might like to point out that often times a feeding problem is not necessarily the fault of the pistol but that of the magazine. I saw that recently at the range when an XD would feed reolads with no problems using the factory mags but when the shooter tried to switch to a long stack after market mag, he had a failure to feed most every shot.

Oh yeah, my 1995 4013 (I'm the original owner) is a real inaccurate and unreliable POS. After all, it almost failed to feed once and look at the one round high right in the photo . . . obviously the pistol is just a pile of junk.

I have a 4013 like Denver Dick and it is a great pistol. I don't care too much for .40S&W but this one is a very accurate and reliable pistol.

Ive had two 4013tsw, down to one now, and never had an issue with either of them with any ammo, type, and brand. Zero miss feeds, zero jams. and while im new to this hobby, even I can get relatively tight shot groups out of it.

I have a 4053 single stack 40 (3.5"bbl, no decocker, no safety, DAO). Similar to the 4013 but w/out decocker and a slightly shorter barrel. It gobbles up most anything I feed it, plus it could be carried easier due to no protruding decocker. I love mine and they can still be had for a reasonable price.

My single stack 4013 was a tack driver. I only sold it to feed the divorce attorney.

The only complaint I had with it was that during a fast mag change it often bit me on my pinky finger. It was a very nice carry gun. Regards 18DAI.

With all of the positive support for the 4013, I don't have to tell you how much I like my 4013TSW. It is a pistol you have to get used to handling to acquire the accuracy. Mine does better with 165 gr when compared with 185 gr, but that is me, not the pistol.

I only have 3rd gen Smiths in Stainless. I have tried to look at other finishes and even tried to convince myself a tupperware pistol would be ok, but.................

That being said, that 4014 looks nice Since there are 450 of them I should be able to find one easy.............right..............

Is that a double stack one? I am looking at the single stack version, just a straight 4013. Wish I was rich, I would just get one of each model.

Looks like mine, shoots like mine My number one carry piece. The 3913 is the same, but I really like the extra punch the 40 carries Oops, opened a can of worms there LOL

PS Pick up a Bianchi 100 professional size 10 holster. You can thank me later

My 4013 was my carry piece until the dept. bought Glocks and required their use. It has NEVER failed me and my qualification scores were much higher with the 4013.
