4026 ?

Tough one to price! It’s gonna be one of those models that wouldn’t be particularly desirable except for it’s scarcity, and it is absolutely a scarce pistol.

I’d look to get it for the purpose of speculation. But being a full size .40cal, it isn’t one of the “market leaders” in S&W 3rd Gen pistols.

Don't worry , my 1076 ain't going nowhere . Like I said , I've never seen one , so I guess they are scarce . It's funny how just because they are scarce and have a side decocker people , at least some , go wild over them . Always wondered why S&W wandered into the world of side dockers , were they trying to copy another company ? If so , why not make more of them ?

FBI demanded them for the 10mm service gun contract I think.

I’m not a Sig guy at all, in any way, but the Sig design is the best design and the S&W version doesn’t measure up against it.
My one complaint about 3rd Gen ergoes is the slide safety. The frame decocker fixes that for me, but it was never anything more than a kludge for S&W who only made them because of the FBI, and you can tell the Sig system just feels a lot more refined, like it's an essential part of the design instead of something hastily tacked on. But I don't shoot Sigs as well.

I agree , it seems like an add on . For those of you that have side decockers , Midway had them , they might still . It doesn't hurt to have one in the spares box .

I had a 4026 a few years ago. Wish I had kept it.. Sold on GB for around 400.. 4536 is rather rare also along with the 4526 both are keepers..

The 4026, like the 1026, would be a 5" duty gun on the 4006-platform, but with a frame-mounted decock lever.

A 4076, if any were ever made, would've been akin to the 4.25" 'Commander'-size model 1076s and 4576s.

In theory a 4076 would've been a slick move by S&W. It would've offered the Bureau a familiar platform to transition field agents from the large-frame 1076 to the then-upstart .40S&W cartridge - but chambered in a smaller, 9mm-size pistol having a manual-of-arms they were already trained on.

The primary user of the 4026 was Kansas City, MO. P.D. The first batch has KCPD logo laser engraved on the slide.

That’s attractive laser work there. I also love the California State Parks issued guns’ laser etching, but those 4006’s were only ever issued with the ugly adjustable rear sight.

4006s were built on the 9mm frame so a standard length barrel on that would've been 4''. The perfect gun to transition over from probably would've been a '4023' retaining the frame decocker they wanted while the aluminum frame gets rid of the weight complaints a lot of agents had. I don't think a 4023 was actually produced but S&W probably would've done it if the FBI asked. But the FBI also seemed to want to wash their hands of S&W entirely after the 10mm debacle so they missed the boat.

Its a real shame that the only decocker grips for the variant/s we speak of is the curved grip.....

The most uncomfortable grip S&W sent short of the magnas.... sorry thats just IMO...

It's strange too, since the 10/45 frame decocker guns had both grips available plus the palm swell grips, while the 9/40 ones only have the curved grips. I shoot better with the flat grips and I wish I could get one for my 5926.

I've had all the flavors of Stright back grips in the larger frame guns and I prefer them to any other with the palm swells on my 26, they are most comfortable, even over the Houges.... its a shame nothing happened with the 9/40, frame decocker series

I have never held a 4026, have held a 5926. I passed on both. The 5926 was over priced in my taste ($500). The 4026 was priced just right, but I wasn't in the market at the time. Guy wanted $400. I so wished I had robbed the piggy bank and bought it then. I love the decocker on the 3rd Gens. A 4023 would have been the perfect gun IHMO.
