What is the purpose of the orange plastic part that comes in the case with a M&P 40c ? I cant find it in a forum search or the manual

Is it round like the case of a bullet with a tab on it? If so, it was meant to be placed in the barrel and the slide closed on it with tab sticking out.

If it's like this one, it's called a Chamber Safety Flag. You can tell at a glance the pistol is unloaded.

When placed into the chamber of the gun it is an indicator that the weapon does not have a live round in the chamber! I wondered the same thing til I asked the guys at the gun store!

You could throw it away like I did mine since it is now your gun and I keep them all loaded and ready, but there are other threads about this!
