I have a supply of Remington 200gr JHPs for a .41 Mag and would like to get some information from those of you who might have loaded using these bullets and 2400. Specifically I have once fired Remington brass, a freshly opened old stock can of Herc 2400, Winchester LP primers and these Rem 200 gr JHPs which of course do not show up in any reloading manual I have been able to locate. I have loaded Rem brass, with CCI 300 primers, 16.0 gr of H2400 and Hornady 210 XTP.

So: R-P Brass, Win LP, Rem 200 gr JHP, Herc 2400 (? gr)

Thanks!

Pecos Bill beat me to it. Alliant shows 16.8 gr. of 2400 with a Speer 200 gr. bullet at 1311 fps. FWI, all of the powder providers have data on the Internet. Bob!!

Thanks for the replies but the difference is the bullet. The manuals show a Speer 200 gr bullet which seems to be quite different than the Remington. I am looking for someone who has load data for the exact combination I have listed. RP brass, Win LP primer, Rem 200 gr JHP, and Herc 2400 (I have heard and read that Herc and Alliant 2400 do perform differently).

41 mag, I just looked through Hornady 8th and 9th, Nosler 6 and 7, Lyman 47th manual and The Complete Reloading Guide. I found your bullets on page 369 of Lyman manual and on page 151 of The Complete Reloading Guide. However your powder is not listed in either manual. I am not giving you any info due to that reason. I do not want to be responsible for any foolish mistake on your part. The way I see it, you have two options: 1. Use a different powder- good luck finding what you need. 2. Changing bullets. Personally this is the option I would go for myself. Sorry I can't help. I will be glad to look up another powder for you though. I will give you a hint- You need one of these powders: Unique, Bullseye, Red Dot, Green Dot or Herco. I wish you the best in your search.

I don't think you're going to see much difference between one JHP and another of the same weight, even if they're shaped a bit differently. I'd try the recommended load, backing the charge down a grain, and work up, 10 rounds at a time, .2gr at a time.
That's just what I'd do, you'll do as you must.

Interesting about the Lyman manual as I have the 49th edition and the .41 mag is on page 368 which does list 2400 (Alliant of course) with a 200 gr JHP but the bullet is not Remington but Speer.

Vintage Powder

(I have heard and read that Herc and Alliant 2400 do perform differently).

I used my last "vintage" can of Hercules 2400 a few months ago. It was about 30yrs. old & was stored with all my other powder in a dry/cool storage case. I don't have a chrono but I noticed newly loaded 357 & 44s, with the old powder, seemed a little flat. Got a new can & the same load was noticeably sharper. I've read that A2400 is supposedly a tad faster than H2400, not to mention "fresher", but I don't know if there's any documentation to back it.

Trying to find the exact receipe for your component combo is usually difficult. Sometime you just have to extrapolate/translate components, & start low if there's much difference.
