41 mag No one can have just one!

Hey all, hi from Wyoming. This is my first post and new to S& forum.
I just received my first M657 Proformance Center from a friend of mine a few months ago.
He is 90 now and can not hold steady so he gave it to me. I will treasure this gun.
Last summer we mounted a 2x weaver scope but since I mounted a 4x Leupold on it for hunting all the critters we have here in the mountains and plains.

PBR Driver, what a great friend. Welcome to the site and we all would love to see pics of your new M657

Well I picked up the 57 I bought off GB from a local guy last night (We exchanged ftf so no transfer/shipping YEA!) And I shot it today. Its had custom work in the distant past, has a 5" BBL, Weigand front sight, probably the nicest trigger and action of my 6 smiths, the refinish especially on the Cylinder doesnt quite match, but oh my does she shoot!! I think a place called Trappers gun works did the work, its stamped Trappers custom on the side and I will get more info/ pics soon and I need to get set up to reload for ..41 mag, what a great caliber!

Pristine

I have a Ruger 41 Magnum 3-screw flat top with a 6.5" barrel that my Mom bought my Dad in 1974 (I think)...I was there when she bought it. My Dad fired a cylinder of factory ammo through it and he never shot it again after that. I've related this elsewhere on the board, but it fits well here. He used to take the revolver out of the box and orange wrapping paper, which I still have, and he would point it out toward the back yard and at the river. He never dry-fired it. He'd hold it, appreciating the heft of the revolver, then he'd wipe it down with his silicone cloth and put it back in the paper then close the box. It looks as good today as when he opened it on his birthday in 1974. It was his favorite gun. I can pull it out of the safe and do the same thing and feel my Dad near again. He's in an Alzheimer's ward now; a mere shadow of his former self. He called my brother and I when he knew he was getting bad and gave us his gun collection. Alzheimer's is a horrid affliction; you lose a loved one twice. But, I'll always have the Ruger 41 magnum, and the 41 magnum is my favorite handgun round. There's a guy on here who has a two-tone blued heavy-barreled Model 58 for sale. I'm gonna find SOME way to pay for that gun.

.41s are an acquired taste. At one high point in my collecting, I had 42 or 43 of them along with sundry .41 caliber wildcats. I've been paring down the collection as Iapproach my dotage. Never did get ahold of a Texas Longhorn or 657 Magnum Hunter. I'll probably just keep a few customs and my FAs both 97s and 83s(forget the exact nomenclature), a few Rugers, and my Marlin 1894 SS LTD .41Magnum. Then again, I may just go for the rarer ones!

Whew, and I thought I had a rare disease. The 4" Model 57 was the first, then a 6" p&r'd 57, then a Dan Wesson 6". Luckily, I don't think I'll find an affordable 3" 657, but they sure are pretty.

Joe Mack and I think it is ColtSAA have it as bad as I have seen... Every time I start counting I get up around 25 and an hour later remember one I forgot...so I have just quit counting and keep buying...

Makes life simple....

Groo here
Well I got another 41 ,, a 657 3 inch..
First it got a set of Packs and went to the range..
After , it went to my local DA revolver smith for work...
After a new hand and cylinder lock { both over sized }
a shim and action work,,, It handles and shoots as it should...
Now I hate to get it dirty carrying it..
This strange dialect you speak.......what is the meaning of this phrase "have just one". I do not think my language has a corresponding phrase

Yeah - I was smitten a long time ago with the 41 Magnum bug. I have 4 of them - a 6" model 657-3, a model 657-4 Mountain Gun, a 4" model 57 P & R with presentation case, and a 5 1/2" Ruger Bisley. Great guns, all of them. wyatte

Only have one so far. A 1976 vintage cased 8 3/8 bbl. Just started reloading for it after casting some bullets last weekend.

I was perfectly happy with one .41 mag until I found this dadblamed forum:cool:

Misery loves company!

Four inch and 8 3/8 inch no-dash 57's, and a 6 1/2 inch 657-3 here.

Oh, also a Blackhawk 6 1/2 inch. I sometimes forget about the Rugers.
